🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
Dems either have to start running harder left candidates, or candidates that aren't afraid to be just as nasty as Republicans.

I'm no fan of Trump, but this tweet, wow. Shun your friends, colleagues, etc who voted red? Surely this is promoting the very division affecting America which Dems are constantly saying they are trying to counter?
I won't go that far, but it's going to be hard to look them in the face right now. I'm going to need some time. :(

No doubt about it.

I gotta ask, are the “uncommitted” voters in Michigan happy now? They made their point about being angry at Biden for supporting Israel but do they really think that Donald Trump will get Netanyahu to take it easy on the Palestinians? The whole Middle East is about to blow up.
Goodbye Gaza. Millions are going to die.

I could give a laundry list of reasons as to how Trump ultimately won, none of which I'm sure most people here would want to hear or be receptive to in the first place, so I won't. (Not an R or D, spoiler warning).

Though I imagine that some on the left and right may realize that calling one person or his supporters fascists, Nazis, and everything in-between isn't a winning strategy. That and having Beyonce show up isn't going to shore up any more votes than it did in 2016.

That is all.

I'm sorry, but this is a dumb take. If someone is racist, fascist, a Nazi sympathizer, or anything in between, they rightfully deserve to be called that.

This election rightly showed that throwing out insults doesn't matter, and if anything that Dems need to stop trying to be"proper" or have "decorum", because Republicans obviously don't care.

So run up a candidate who will absolutely go scorched earth on the right wing, prop up and champion leftist policies, and don't be afraid of public perception, because public perception obviously didn't do jack **** for ruining Trump's chances.

The Democrats need their own Luthen Rael.

And you wonder why Harris lost and that Trump won the popular vote, winning areas that Republicans hadn't won in decades, coupled with Harris not outrunning Biden virtually anywhere? That doesn't happen by accident, and calling folks as you would doesn't paint you any better than when Trump would insult folks at his rallies. Yeah, you're not the one running for higher office, but look in the mirror.

You can think and feel how you'd like, but clearly the majority of the country felt otherwise and made that known. Obviously you don't have to like the outcome any more than those on the right did in 2020 with their foolish 'Stop the steal' nonsense. But that strategy? Worthless.

This country hates women. End of story. More and more men are turning conservative cause women finally don't have to deal with them, so they'll go for the candidate that will coerce women into submission.

You thought all this woman hating on movies, games, tv shows, etc was just an insular thing? Incel culture is at a fever pitch and conservatives are welcoming them and blaming it on leftist ideologies as to why men can't be "men" anymore.

Anyone think Trump would have won in 2020 if Covid didn't happen?

I got crap this morning from a lady when i said we are no longer and democracy but a fasicts dictatorship and she said that a funny thing to say about the guy who won the a popular vote, i asked her to get back to me in four years with who she is voting for, since Trump told his followers several times they will never need to vote again after this time, so, yes, like Germany in the 1930s we elected our eventual dictator

Celebrities showed up for both sides, kind of weird that you fixated on Beyonce.

Here I teach Ukrainian refugees the local language. Classes were not possible today because several students were understandably completely shocked and crying. I was also at a loss and didn't really know what to say.
Yeah, things are going to get really bad there unfortunatly

I'm really worried for Americans, particularly transgender Americans, women, and immigrants. Beyond that, the unfortunate truth is that everything American trickles down to international politics and the culture surrounding it. What will happen to Gaza? Ukraine? Trump has made it abundantly clear that he's not going to interfere when Russia expands this conflict. Far right figures everywhere are empowered today, and there will be consequences. Social media got worse immediately, and it was a cesspool to begin with. This has directly emboldened all the grifters and cultural critics that have already made life so difficult for any minority trying to work in the art and entertainment space, or in any space they consider above them. What about the environment? The planet is dying rapidly, and Trump doesn't even pretend to care. He doesn't care about anything, and yet here we are. World War III is much closer to reality today than it was yesterday. Russian propagandists are celebrating for a reason. I don't want to feel defeated or hopeless, but this is a tough day. Much tougher than 2016.
I feel your pain, friend, because it is my own. :)

I only want to say this: I'm not going to let the election results get to me. I am going to spend the next 4 years living my life to the fullest. And I advise you all to do the same.

Have fun, spend time with friends and family, go see a movie, a concert/show or a sports game (I plan on attending my first non-orchestra concert next summer). Stay in touch with long distance friends and be of valuable emotional and creative support to them. Just go out there and do the right thing and be the best damn person you can be and hold your head high. Just because other people won't doesn't mean you should follow your example.

You are all loved. And you are not alone.

There is goodness in this world. And it's GODDAMN WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

I like the sentiment, but I might be out of a job soon if Republicans truly want to dismantle the Department of Education. I'm a teacher in Red ass Florida, I already had a target on my back.

I have zero problem with folks blaming my fellow caucasian males for the Trump victory. We are his biggest backers and both stupid and awful.

But lets not let the ladies off lightly. White women once again came out to vote to put their big orange daddy back into office. The only group in the US that hates women as much as men is other women.

I blame comics and movies and video games, for making us feel that "good" always wins
when really, evil is easy, and usually comes out on top

You're not wrong, it really is the religious zealots that view women as subordinate to men that really is the cancer that needs to be cut out. I fight with this every day in Florida.

Agreed, i am a white male and voted for Kamala as did my brother, but where was this tide of angry woman who were supposed to back Kamala because of their rights being threatened? They didnt show up or did for Trump, I am vastly disappointed in teh apathy of democrats who once again screwed themselves, not only did they not win the presidency they lost the senate and house, so screw them for not giving a damn about this country and their petty reasons for not voting, typical democrats, they cant stay united for anything, they wanted Biden to drop out then did nothing to support Kamala.

For me, the hope now becomes about hoping he doesn't pass enough of the truly awful stuff the first 2 years and maybe the Dems get the House or Senate back.

The fate of Medicare/Department of Ed is likely my primary concern at this moment cause I have an autistic child who depends on receiving various services so she can learn. She won't be able to catch up if I lose her Healthcare coverage or the we lose her special school and such in the Department of Ed go away.

I'm avoiding the news today. After last night, I want to look for positive wherever I can find it.

I hate that have to put up with Trump for another four years, but it is what it is. In that time, I will not let him steal my joy or get on my nerves. He's an attention seeker and I don't want to give him the satisfaction.

Now here is where I was going to bring up the message from "Do The Right Thing" where you beat hate with love, but after last night, what I learned is that Michelle Obama's "When they go low, we go high" doesn't get you anywhere.

Hope I can find the will to join you in that head space. Dont think it's going to happen today.
