🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
I'm surprised my Republican niece keeps posting pictures of her new girl baby as if that child has any real future as a woman. :(

With more of the popular vote in, they've updated what were the preliminary exit polls, no longer an even gender split.

The manvalanche arrived for Republicans:

Gender (21 point gender gap)
Men (47%) | Harris 42% | Trump 55% (Trump +13)
Women (53%) Harris 53% | Trump 45% (Harris +8)

Yeah, so, this was an electoral strategy dead end in 2016 and 2020. It brings me no joy to say the female candidate strategy has to be reevaluated...put on pause for a long while. Sadly.

This is with 2020 and 2016 and 2012 included.

Obama and Biden both did better than Harris, and Obama's losing by less with men was more decisive than Clinton's slight gains with women over Obama.

It's probably gotta be Gavin Newsome in 2028, should've been him this time around.

There is definitely something in the American psyche opposed to a woman Prez, Palin was basically Trump and they rejected her team over a Black guy.

Ferraro was rejected with Mondale too in 1984. Obama may have picked up an extra point or two of his 7 point margin just because Palin was on the ticket with McCain. Obama won the male vote in 2008.

Would Biden in 2020 have done even better with a male VP is another question.

The defund the police thing came about because black men were being murdered by cops, yet black men seem to have problems with the police being defunded?

I think honestly, the biggest reason for the loss is Biden should have never been running for re-election in the first place. The Democrats needed a strong candidate ready to run for campaigning day 1. I said this when Biden won back in 2020. He was the guy you needed in 2020, but he is also 80 and showing it. His age was even an issue he had to overcome in 2020. It's insane they allowed him to run for over half the campaign season unopposed, especially when the way the momentum was going was clear.

The Democrats made other mistakes along the way, for sure. But this was mistake number 1
Agreed, and now Biden’s legacy is now forever tarnished. He the premise of being a “transitional candidate”he was supposed to be the one to move the country beyond the divisive era of the Trump but now he’s unintentionally brought the world a second Trump Presidency. This is a tragedy.

Biden as the incumbent VP (like Al Gore in 2000) was talked out of running in 2016. This created a chain reaction that has played itself out all the way until now.

I’m sure that a female VP was a mixed bag for McCain. I just remember being repulsed by the idea of someone that reminded me of George W Bush.

Speaking of Dubya, it’s telling that he didn’t endorse any candidate but quickly congratulated Trump.

So how do you appeal to white men outside of economics without chasing off other voters?
This is a real problem. White men feel cornered because they think they are losing "privileges". However, Democrats cannot offer them these "privileges" back because it would be at the expense of minorities.

I suspect there is a similar reason why Republicans could say pretty inflammatory things about Democrats, but Dems cannot reject these categorically.

They need to try to reach more an audience with high school or less education in the future. Easier said than done. But back in the day the Colbert Report and Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart were important media among young people.

Welp. I did what most Americans do under stressed and lack of sleep. I online shopped for stuff I don’t need and it was pricey. As a cali native, I like Gavin, but he got too many skeletons in his closet, but who knows, he got a JFK air about him, including affairs. He got my vote tho. Eh. That other timeline must be nice.

Character concerns don't seem to be an issue anymore.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Newsom runs in 2028

Gavin would be my choice, but the right and folks outside of Cali have an easy discourse against him already. The ‘’homeless’’ problem in the state, which is one of the main bs reasons Rogan and his ppl supposedly left California, which we all know is bs, but his sheep follow in millions at this point.

Dave Bautista and JB ‘the money’ Pritzker.

If we need Latino guys and celebrity because we live in a cartoon now let’s go all the way.
