The Washington Post - Biden set to announce support for major Supreme Court changes

Plans include proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code.
President Biden is finalizing plans to endorse major changes to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks, including proposals for legislation to establish term limits for the justices and an enforceable ethics code, according to two people briefed on the plans.

He is also weighing whether to call for a constitutional amendment to eliminate broad immunity for presidents and other constitutional officeholders, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.

The announcement would mark a major shift for Biden, a former chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who has long resisted calls to reform the high court. The potential changes come in response to growing outrage among his supporters about recent ethics scandals surrounding Justice Clarence Thomas and decisions by the new court majority that have changed legal precedent on issues including abortion and federal regulatory powers.

I wonder now if I've ever read anything good about this guy. :(
Trump picks are never good. Hell even Mike Pence who was foisted on him was a bad dude on how he ran Indiana and gutted HHS as VP.

True, but at least Pence balked at not certifying the election, knowing he didn't have the authority. Vance wouldn't have thought twice.

J.D. Vance: `We're effectively run in this country ... by childless cat ladies who are miserable'

Really? And who would those ladies be.....?

Term limits for appointed officials seems reasonable to me. Elected officials, I have a harder time with as it really goes to the heart of a democratic society (whether the US qualifies is debatable). I would be in favor of an outside, independent group of medical specialists who would evaluate someone's fitness for office, but I think setting an age limit is somewhat arbitrary.

I can see an age limit set high like 80 or so. 65 does seem low these days.

I don’t think I would be in favor of age limits, because everyone is different. I look at people like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, who don’t really seem to have slowed down much at all. Then there’s the president who has a speech impediment but certainly looks pretty frail these days.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the co-chair of the DNC Rules Committee, called Biden campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon on Tuesday to push for the delay of the virtual roll call that would officially nominate Biden, two people with direct knowledge of the call told ABC News.

Walz co-wrote the letter sent this morning to rules committee members, which set the proposal for an early August virtual nomination of Biden. The roll call could previously have been held as early as Sunday.

Walz told O'Malley Dillon that he has been hearing from other governors who want the roll call to be pushed back. The Biden campaign made the concession to push it back, one source said, and even helped to propose the solution.
