Discussion: Global Warming and Other Environmental Issues

I know I live in Florida and shouldn't complain about the weather. You guys in the north will be the first to point that out. I don't care. I'm gonna complain anyway.

Weather-wise, the holidays have been depressing in the last few years. It's chilly at best, for Florida standards anyway. I miss the cold weather from my childhood.

Yet...this morning I'm awaken to freezing weather, for Florida standards anyway. So, is Mr. Gore correct about global warming or is mother nature messing with us?

It's like, 50 degrees out right now & it feels colder. Anyway, I was walking to the library & my fingers were freaking numb. NUMB!:cmad:

I would tend to lean toward Mother Nature being on her period. That is to say, every once in a while, she gets pissy and **** hits the fan, but thats okay cause its all part of her cycle.

We have a very very small record of weather patterns and climate changes relative to the actual age of the Earth. This means that we have no idea what is actually "normal" because the Earth's weather patterns are constantly changing however small, those changes do become apparent over decades. Moreso over centuries. Etc etc etc.

I agree with Spider-Who?. As far as we know the weather is absolutely normal and well within the acceptable range. The world is getting hotter. Who says it's not supposed to?

Enviromentalist Wackjobs. :hehe:

Al Gore is not a scientist. He's a politician who made a movie based on bad science.

I doubt you could find someone who thinks Al Gore is a scientist.

Well easily anyway.

I take that back. They're a lot of dumb people out there.

No, it's just polar bears licking the salt off all the icebergs that's making them melt.

No... It's the planet going through natural fluctuations in temperature. Also, there are tons of non-human causes for CO2 emissions. The whole "go green" thing is just a way to get people to buy stuff.

The world is actually in a cooling trend at the moment.

If you havent noticed, the environmentalists stopped using "global warming" awhile back because the world stopped getting hotter. Now its "climate change" and whether it gets hot or cold, rain or shine, calm or windy, its all because of climate change...and we are to blame. Its the political stance that cant lose...because every day there is climate change one way or another.

Actually, all the proponents of the anthropogenic climate change theory believe that the world is in a warming trend. The reason they stopped using the term, "global warming," is because most people (e.g., ******s) get confused by the fact that while the OVERALL trend is supposed to be towards warming, anomalous instances of weather can cause localized low temperatures.

This was apparently too hard to understand (for most people in this thread, too, apparently).

I have noticed some reports that say we're in a cooling trend, but clearly these haven't been enough to spark any concern or new thought in the scientific community. I'm also no climatologist, so I can't pretend to be an expert.

So for now I'm keeping my mind open.

It's not like CO2 is causing our oceans to become increasingly acidic. That's just crazy talk.

People can talk about climate change all they want, but I'm shocked that the fact that CO2 is lowering the pH of our oceans isn't met with more recognition or concern. For that I blame the media.

qft!

Gamma is absolutely right. Going Green is a way for companies to make you like them more so you'll buy their products or a way to label certain products so that you will be more likely to buy them.

No, not companies, though they profit some. The Government seizing Power in the name of Global Warming is both disgusting and disturbing.
