NBA Players Launch a Political Strike: What's Organized Labor Waiting for?

The NBA players’ strike and the solidarity by players in other sports show the working class’s potential power. Just imagine if the nearly 15-million unionized workers in the country organized an all-out political general strike while calling on non-union workers to join them? The preparations for such a strike could also be the launching pad for a mass unionization drive to organize those without union representation. It could also lay the foundations for creating a mass socialist workers’ party and a decisive break with the rotten two-party system. This is the way forward!

There is so much anti-Union propaganda that it's outstanding.

So, here's the deal with this complete and UTTER BS.

Management is "organized". A few years ago when the UFCW went on strike against Albertsons, Vons (both now the same), and Ralphs, they opened their stores in rotation with their scabs so some stupid/ignorant people could cross picket lines and get their groceries. You want to know what the main sticking point was? Healthcare. Think about that one.

I paid union dues. They were 1.15%. For our average employee, that came to about $500 per year. You want to know what they got out of that? Well, I'll tell you.

It took us 2 1/2 years and a final negotiating session that lasted 42 hours, but here's what we got:

Step increases (5%) as opposed to discretionary management"merit" increases
Health and safety protections that called for mandatory inspections by EH&S
Guaranteed cost of Living Adjustments
Grievance procedures mandating independent arbitration procedures
Reclassification reviews
Additional living wage adjustments for lower paid employees
Enhanced family and personal leaves
All pay increases retroactive with a lump sum payment

And the list goes on. You know what the non-represented employees got? Part of what we did because management didn't want them to organize. You're welcome.

No wonder those low life scum buckets don't want you to organize like they are and prefer you buy a video game system.

Your choice.

I was just popping in to bring up Prop 22. What a ****ing horrifying precedent.
Never underestimate the stupidity (or maybe self concern) of people. A frelling disaster and another way to continue the exploitation of workers. Disgusting and as soon as we have COVID behind us, this needs to get dumped in the trash bin asap. Better yet, California needs to flex some economic muscle and deal with this legislatively.

The fact that the Pickertons haven’t felt the need to rebrand themselves at all shows just how little America cares about labor and it’s history in this country.
