I bet it would help less than you think. Because a lot of people who pirate wouldn't buy the game any way. And, unlike physical goods, if you download something you would never have paid for, you're not taking sales away from the producers.

Still, the owners of the site said they complied with DMCA and copyright claims, and pulled those files. But there's no way they could possibly check every single file for copyright infringement. Firstly, how would you know that MyGraduation.avi was actually a pirated copy of The Dark Knight? Secondly, what if the file is under copyright, but the content creator used the Creative Commons license that allows for free distribution and use of the content? Is the site supposed to contact every creator and double check that?

No they didn't part of the indictment has the higher ups of that site emailing each other about content they knew was on there that was illegal and they didn't take off. They were even sharing the links of said with each other. For computer guys they should have known better and hidden those communications somehow.

Scary to see whats going on. Its difficult not to think that Hollywood is pushing buttons to get the FBI AND NZ agencies to make the bust today as a big middle finger towards those in protest of a controlled internet just yesterday.

Its also crazy to think that to do this over international borders they dont even need SOPA. The posibility for abuse with SOPA is overwhelming and pretty much a given.

The entertainment industry has been singing the same tune for liek 15 years now and isntead of trying to play the "my clients are criminals" card they should evolve and find more innovative ways to deliver content and redefine their revenue streams. Also, these 1 lost sale per download loss estimates they give are just silly now.

This sh** is kinda freaking me out lol I really hope this bullsh** doesn`t pass jesus.:csad:

Doesn't them doing this clearly show that the laws they have now work just fine ?

Exactly. They wanted to go after piracy - they just proved they could.

The music industry pulls this same **** with every new technology.

"We have to ban mp3's because they'll kill the music industry!"

"We have to ban cd burners because they'll kill the music industry!"

"We have to ban cassette tapes because they'll kill the music industry!"

"We have to ban radio because they'll kill the music industry!"

"We have to ban player pianos because they'll kill the music industry!"

Yes, when player pianos were introduced, the music industry actually did ***** and moan about it. That's how long they've been doing this, that's how effective they've been, and that's how 'dangerous' those technologies were.

And in every case, the music industry finally stops crying, gives in, and realizes it can make money on the new technology.

Just like CG and the film industry.....wait.

Everyone once in a while, something like this comes along and reminds me that the government and their corporate sponsors are out to screw me, my fellow citizens don't care, and there's nothing I can do about it.

Seems like The Megaupload guys are going down swinging

Ira Rothken, an attorney well known in the tech sector for defending web sites accused of copyright violations, said that his clients are assembling a team of crack copyright, criminal and technology attorneys to defend them in courts across the globe.

"There are significant issues of due process," Rothken said early this morning. "The government has taken down one of the world's largest storage providers and have done so without giving Megaupload an opportunity to be heard in court."

Good on them.

But, some of the stuff I've been hearing about the Megaupload execs, if true, sure makes them sound skeevy.

Hopefully this comes back to bite the government in the ass. If megaupload is global what gives our government the right to take them down? Shouldn't they have to coordinate and approve this on a global level with someone? This is probably a stupid question since america usually just does whatever.

I think the thing is. While the main head quarters is outside of the U.S. They also had servers set up in the U.S. at the same time

The skeevy thing is that the CEO, Swizz Beatz (not Dotkom) is a record producer and married to Alicia Keys, and has gone untouched.

I'm not buying that. Guys name was on the site as CEO.

Not to mention there's a video where he talks about Megaupload is he is very much in charge.

Of course an American celebrity wasn't going to be arrested in all of this seeing as it would tarnish all the hard work NBCUniversal put into lobbying. Arresting one of the very people you're trying to "protect" wouldn't look to good.

Not to mention the guy was under the Universal brand who was having litigation problems with Megaupload but didn't do anything because well the guy brings in money and they're not going to fight against the green.

This entire thing is a big joke anyway.

Anonymous isn't helping. In fact they're making things worse.
