If people are going to be racist in public, what is wrong with them being called out for racism in public exactly?

Also, as this was false, was anyone attacked racist? Did anyone lose their job for being racist?

Agreed, two stories don't mean there is a pattern. ...But here's one from 2014 where a waitress claimed a man left the n-word on his take out receipt after leaving the word "none" in the tipline (who tips for take out anyway?).

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...s-restaurant-article-1.1804250?outputType=amp

Last year in Virginia, a waitress claimed a couple left a racist note on a receipt. Turns out it was also fake.

    https://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/...eipt-their-lawyer-tells-a-different-story/amp

Four separate instances where someone lied, their lie was reported on and believed and these people even received cash donations because of the alleged racist they experienced.

Here's a good article on why these type of stories are worthless regardless of it they are fake or not:

    https://freebeacon.com/blog/please-please-please-stop-reporting-viral-receipt-stories/

The problem is when it's made up, unprovable ********.

In this instance no, no one lost their job for being racist (except for the waiter) because fortunately the innocent customer was not identified. But had that person been, are you saying that it's not a big deal as long as they were not attacked or lost their job?

You will pardon me if I don't give a **** about made up claims of racism when stand your ground has just declared open season on minorities.

    Both sides are not equal.

Not in this instance. In others, people had their reputation harmed by false claims. Hence the lawsuits.

No one said the two were equal.

And stand your ground in Florida has had a lot of controversial cases, and not just ones involving a person of color killed by a white person.

When my dad went down to New Orleans to work at the oil refinery, him and his guys went out with a couple of locals who worked with them to a restaurant. The locals referred to the black waitress as a n***** and would call her that to get her attention.

Can anyone who lives in New Orleans confirm whether or not this is a common thing? My dad was absolutely floored and told the guys that under no circumstance were they to call the waitress a n***** again.

    I'm guessing it wasn't this restaurant: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...cist-receipt-knew-slur-show-article-1.2233410

Edit: In regards to your dad's story, did he mention at all how the waitress herself actually responded to being referred to as that word?

I can't speak of New Orleans, but Baton Rouge is absolutely racist. They aren't very far apart so... I wouldn't be surprised at all.

My step mom is from there and has told me some ****ed up stories as recent as the early 2000s where restaurants have "No Coloreds Allowed" on windows.

I mean, New Orleans had a monument to a white insurrection in Reconstruction era Louisiana.

He said the waitress just took it. I'm sure she thought of her job. I've worked as a server before and let sexual comments go because I was worried I would get fired. It sucks.

I can say it definitely is not that way the further north you travel in Louisiana. Of course there are plenty of people with that kind of attitude but nothing nearly as blatant or casual.

I have been to New Orleans several times too but never saw that. Of course I was in the "touristy" parts of the town most of those times so they were better behaved there. I have traveled outside those areas but personally never saw anything so outright like that.

But I have absolteuly no doubt those experiences are true. Maybe not as much now or maybe more so since we live in the current political climate.

Similarly in Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi I have seen some offensive stuff the further south but less so the further north. It's all there but only when you get nearer to certain areas does the ugly really show.

Trump did better with blacks and hispanics than Mitt Romney. He had 21% of the non-white vote.

    These are all racists?

You would dare approach a black or hispanic person and call them an 'idiot' because they don't agree with you about racism? Who are you to judge and dictate how they should feel? This blatant arrogance and lack of self awareness is one of the reasons Trump was elected.

42% of women voted for Trump. I take it you also know what's better for these women than they do? Sounds like 'mansplaining' to me.

Oh give it a rest. I'm guessing that the majority of people who voted for Trump are having serious regrets now and the ones that aren't are not smart. It's that simple. He's a treasonous piece of **** and anyone that can't see that is delusional.

How many black people and Hispanics voted in 2016 as opposed to 2008 and 2012? How many of those that did vote for Obama also participated in 2016?

I always thought my area was fairly progressive but I'm learning otherwise. I knew my now deceased uncle was racist but we all just shook our heads, thought he was an idiot and moved on. Since then I got married and found out my father in law is a worse version of my uncle. He was at the DMV with me (He showed up even though I told him not to) and made trouble for the Hispanic woman that helped us. He jmmediately started speaking German to her and said when he was in college he applied for a job at a Pizza Hut. The job posting said the applicants must be bilingual, so he went in speaking German. When the manager explained that wasn't what the sign meant, he said it was unclear and threatened to sue for discrimination. The poor woman at the DMV had her jaw on the floor. I told her to ignore him and let her move on with helping us. After getting things done, he kept blathering at her. I stood behind him and started making faces at him, which the woman tried to not laugh at.

Then there is my coworker that has twice said loudly in front of minority customers that people who don't speak English should go back to where they come from.
