🇺🇸 Discussion: The DEMOCRATIC P - Part 3

Strange to think he may have been had he not made that deal with Biden.
I recall liking him well enough when he ran, but since then he's shown himself to not be top shelf. Bullet dodged.

I don't know. The Right is doing a good job of making Pete look weak.
Glad he never made it to President, geez....
Yup, he's a slimeball driven by lust for power without any principles or actual policy goals. How on Earth does he think it is on reporters to ask him questions about a massive disaster in his area of jurisdiction? Of course, people want to hear from him right away.

Buttigieg and Harris are two of the most terrifying up and comers in the Dem leadership because if they take control, the Party is doomed. I don't love Biden. He is too old, has lost a step, and is often wedded to outdated ideas. Nevertheless, I generally respect the man.

I think Biden is in politics and public service for generally the right reasons and he has an idea how to make America better. He tries to achieve policy goals consistent with his vision even if I think he could push harder for more and do a better job of whipping votes and building consensus. I don't necessarily agree with all of his goals. I think more change is needed and quicker to stave off disaster.

Buttigieg and Harris stand for nothing, which is why they were caught in so many blatant flipflops and gaffes during the campaign and since.

Judge Janet is driving all over Wisconsin to get the word out about the April 4th election for the WI Supreme Court and what the implications are if the court stays in R hands. She mentions that the turnout of folks wanting to talk to her is high and that there are folks lining up outside the doors at the events.

Things you have to do when the Supreme Court rules for the minority instead of what voters actually want.

The new Fugitive Slave Acts are going to be fun.

Strange to think he may have been had he not made that deal with Biden.

He was never going to make it. It was clear he was anathema to people of color.

After Biden who are the favourites to be the next leader?

Someone who is roughly half his age and twice as progressive.
Yeah, could you throw some names out there for me please? I’m from the UK and not as knowledgeable about it.

NBC News - Nevada Democrats implode over battle for party control

A fierce power struggle has broken out over who will run the Democratic Party in Nevada, a pivotal 2024 battleground that last year determined the balance of the Senate.

And it’s getting ugly.

There are calls for the sitting chair’s resignation. There are accusations that Democratic Party Chair Judith Whitmer steered contracts to allies. Two sparring sides accuse each other of attempting to fracture the party.

And new documents obtained by NBC News display the depths of the divisions and how they played out in the run-up to one of the closest Senate races in the nation.

Whitmer, part of a slate of democratic socialists who took over the party in March 2021, now fights to hang on ahead of her March 4 re-election, where she faces a challenge from Nevada Assemblywoman Daniele Munroe-Moreno.

“They’re launching a smear campaign against me, personally,” Whitmer said in an interview with NBC News.

Politico - Sanders supporters took over the Nevada Democratic Party. It’s not going well.
The senator lets it be known that he's unhappy with work his followers have done in the critical battleground state.

Unfortunately the far left like the far right tends to attract unscrupulous, incompetent, and/or strange characters.

And it appears to be Slotkin going for Stabenow's senate seat. I don't see the main contenders for that seat trying to make a messy primary.

This is ridiculous and offensive. Democratic socialists are considered centre-left in any sane, civilized liberal democracy from Canada to France to the Netherlands to Germany to the Nordic Countries. Characterizing them as "far left" extremists comparable to the crypto-Fascist far right that has half your country under its sway is the ignorant insanity you only find in America along with weekly mass shootings, people going into bankruptcy to pay medical bills, and don't say gay bills.

Wait, correction on the last one, you also find those in Putin's Russia.

You really want to get into the Democratic stalwarts in this regard? The Democratic party leaderships stance on social issues like trans rights? Foreign policy like the apartheid being carried out against the Palestinians?

Also define the far left. Because last I checked, two of the most effective Democrats at spreading any sort of decent agenda have been Bernie and AOC. "Far left" using your example. Same for Katie Porter. You know who isn't? Pelosi, of the insider trading. Or Mayor Pete, who likes to hide video tapes of racists cops and not fill potholes. The rest of the time, he just doesn't want to do his job. Then there's the continued support of Feinstein, who they know is incapable of actually doing her job.

The Democratic "centrist", which are really conservatives, are rife with scandal and most if not all, include the President, are bought and paid for. We know, because they went to the fundraisers. We saw what the party did when rail workers attempted to strike.

NY Times - Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago Loses Her Bid for Re-election

The Hill - Lightfoot ousted as Chicago mayor

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) is projected to lose her bid for reelection, a stunning blow to an incumbent who made headlines as an underdog reformer candidate who defied expectations and won the city’s top job in 2019.

Lightfoot on Tuesday failed to be one of the top two vote-getters to notch a spot in the final round of voting in April, according to The Associated Press. A runoff was expected given the unlikeliness that any one candidate would outright win at least half of the vote on Tuesday.

Paul Vallas, former Chicago Public Schools CEO, and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson are projected to face each other in the April 4 runoff.

Yeah, someone really needs to do something about the CPD gangs.

So, between a progressive and Eric Adams from Chicago.
Lots of cleanup for everyone. If the cops are dirty they can't/won't catch the bad guys.
