The seeds have clearly been planted. This is the inherent danger that goes along with a historical strict constructionist Court. Everything remains antiquated in its thinking and it eliminates and/or disregards societal progression.
The problem is that America has always deified its founding fathers, creating an almost idolization of their characters. As a kid, growing up in the 70’s and 80’s, I was essentially taught that they were perfect and that young George Washington couldn’t tell a lie, or that Jefferson was this devout public servant. They became idols who were untouchable. But the reality is that they laid firm foundations and built the country on a bedrock of institutional racism. We have slowly been trying to chip away at that bedrock for the past 150 years, but every victory is met with opposition. It’s been 2.2 steps forward and 2.08 steps back. The progress we make is literally baby steps. But now, with the Court that we currently have in place, we certainly run the risk of erasing even those baby steps and eliminating 60 years of gradual progress.

It’s frustrating and scary.
