This is the Supreme Court....it's no gimme she'll get out of committee.

No comment from me on him or Alito. If they showed up in another thread in the Community Forum, which I won't name, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

If that did happen, Fox News and congressional Republicans will LOSE it. Imagine the hissy fits Cruz and McConnell would throw.

I won't either. But it would make great entertainment for a week or so.

Republicans already showed whatever the Democrats do if another justice spot opens up is completely okay and acceptable. They have zero right to complain if Biden gets two or even three more replacements on the bench in his term.

Yep. They may continue to blubber "but but Harry Reid started it" but Mitch McConnell was the one who nixed the filibuster for SC nominees.

They made their bed, they should lie in it.

And yet "not having a right to complain" has never stopped them before...

I'm so nervous that Biden will actually make a good pick and then Manchin & Sinema kill the nomination because they're "too partisan."

Facing the prospect of a Black woman justice, right-wing media goes berserk, corporate media goes wobbly | Press Watch
    White men are (.492 * 57.8 = ~28%) of the current 2020 population.

    U.S. Population (2020 Census)
    58% white
    19% hispanic or latino
    12% black
    51% female
    49% male

(whites younger than age 18 were 47% in 2020)

    U.S. Supreme Court (current)

    78% white
    11% hispanic or latino
    11% black
    33% female
    67% male

The nomination of a black woman will boost the black percentage to 22% and female percentage to 44%. Clarence Thomas isn't getting any younger and who knows how much gas he has left in the tank because his exit from the court would bring it down to 11% again at least temporarily depending upon his replacement.

So Trump's last pick, Amy Coney Barrett, is a moderate centrist?

Republicans are all whatever they do is fine but whatever Democrats do is wrong even if it is literally the same exact thing.

I don’t get it. Are judges never allowed to donate to candidates as private citizens?

Basically what Messiah said. There is no convention in American political life disallowing judicial nominees from engaging in partisan political activity prior to appointment. Earl Warren was a sitting Republican governor when Eisenhower appointed him to be Chief Justice. If anything is an affront to the independence of the judicial branch, it is Ginni Thomas having been a professional political activist/lobbyist throughout the duration of her husband's tenure on the Court. Talk about apprehension of bias.

I have zero faith Democrats would be able to get a second person in before midterms if Thomas dies. And we know if and when Republicans win control of the Senate, Biden won’t be allowed another pick.
