Discworld

Are you serious!!!! I hope this happens because I love and miss the discworld.

Although a lot of people have tried to adapt it and it hasn't worked out sadly

Interesting. The animated movies were okay, but marred by an unacceptably poor quality of animation, even by 1990s standards.

The live action films to date I feel were hampered by attempting to replicate every part of the book.

A TV miniseries that is more loosely based on the City Watch might be a good idea in that respect.

Very interesting. Glad fantasy is starting to take hold finally. TV might be the better medium for much of this if they can ramp up their budgets. (might be possible under Amazon)

I really need to learn to distinguish "Discworld" and "Ringworld".

Fingers crossed it works out.

What’s this about a punk rock thriller though? I hope that’s a pun and they haven’t tried to modernise it too much

We have casting!

Richard Dormer, Adam Hugill, Jo Eaton-Kent, Marama Corlett, Lara Rossi, and Sam Adewunmi will form the primary cast for the series, playing names that fans of Pratchett’s works will be more than familiar with.

Dormer will lead the cast as Sam Vimes, the Watch’s captain, dismayed by how Ankh-Morpork’s corruption has robbed his guards of their authority. Eaton-Kent, a gender-fluid actor, will play the Watch’s forensics expert, Constable Cheery, described as a non-binary native recruit in the Night Watch ostracized by their kin, and hoping to find their identity in their work for the Watch. Corlett plays Corporal Angua, a veteran Watch member who is tasked with keeping Hugill’s fresh-faced recruit, Constable Carrot—a human raised by Dwarves after being orphaned as a child—alive long enough to rise through the ranks.

Hmmm, no Nobbs or Colon? And they couldn't get a woman of size to be Lady Sybil? :(

This sounds bonkers. I'm assuming the Turtle is just swimming through space, whilst the elephants have some sort of EV suit and insanely powerful legs to hole up said disk for an eternal amount of time.

Barnett said, “The Watch will be a very BBC America show. As with Killing Eve, we don’t go straight at an adaptation – we blur genres, undercut with humor, and hire the most genius writers and actors to create stories and characters that are both entertaining and very contemporary, that say something new.

Meh. I don’t need a “genius” writer’s version of Discworld, just adapt some of Pratchett’s books instead - good this time.

Wake me when a big budget Mort feature film is announced.

Yeah I pictured a woman who was chunky yet funky but I guess that’s the entertainment business for you. Bit of a shame but I love the look of Vimes, angua and carrot

I can’t remember the exact words but I believe the elephants are covered in thaumic energy. So definitely no space suits or stuff like that. It’s not sci fi

What do they eat? There are no giant plants or water sources in space.

Magic I guess.

It’s not really about the giant elephants, it’s about the adventures on the disc and all the wacky and hilarious characters that live there

BBC's Discworld Cast Expands With Gender-Swapped Lord Vetinari & More

The new Discworld series The Watch has found its Lord Vetinari, and her name is Anna Chancellor. She previously starred in Penny Dreadful as Claire Ives and Pennyworth as Doctor Frances Gaunt.

The Watch, based on Terry Pratchett's 41-book series, will be a fantastical police procedural that follows Ankh-Morpork's Nightwatch police force, led by Richard Dormer's (Game of Thrones) Captain Vimes. In the books, Lord Vetinari is the Lord Patrician of the city, a Machiavellian politician with a grey moral code and a portentous intelligence who, despite being a soft tyrant, is also profoundly opposed to the return of a monarchic system.

Wow, wasn’t expecting that. I’m ok with it and I reckon terry would be too

Not a big fan of gender-swapping Lord Vetinari, but whatevs.

It’s not what I was expecting but ok. I suppose if she plays Vetenari as like a Theresa May type figure it could be fun

Looks more like steampunk than high fantasy, but still interesting.

yeah it’s interesting because in the books they sort of started as high fantasy and then progressed to like a Victorian era sort of thing. But this looks sort of more American frontier ish than what the original books were like. But I guess that was to be expected

This is wonderful news! Can’t wait to see what happens!
