Fantasy Disney Developing Live-Action 'Snow White' (Exclusive)

That's a hell of a first look you chose, Disney.

So they opted for CGI dwarves that look like Shrek characters.

I feel like they could've used a much better image to release as a first look of Snow White with the Dwarves.
At least it's better than this one. :o

Marginally. The idea of a live action Snow White with horribly unrealistic (or plain horrible) CGI dwarves is awful.

Well, that looks boringly accurate.

I guess the CGI unrealistic dwarves is their way to prevent "discrimination against little people" accusations

There's a chance they decided to do that only a while ago, that's why they delayed it a whole year and that's why it looks so bad. If not I'm shocked that this is a product of years of work and planning.

So they changed it to actual dwarves but made them cartoonish as to not offend real life dwarves. I guess they were in a no-win position

Yeah, it sounds like they were idiots and thought it would be "progressive" to equivocate the fantasy race of dwarves to real-life people with dwarfism, which is obviously insanely offensive. And when Dinklage called them out on it, they had the bright idea of instead of being normal, replacing all the dwarves with CGI abominations. Which is what happens when you have a bunch of rich Wall Street dudes in charge of your "sensitivity training."

They could have simply lifted the same camera tricks from the Hobbit & LOTR films and be fine, but no. Instead we get this ugly mess that automatically ensures the movie won't fit the original aesthetic at all. Which is a shame, because Zegler looks amazing.

Nice to see the Dwarves are in the film. I need to see how they look in motion, Zegler looks great. With the strikes still ongoing a pushback isnt that shocking, hell I expect more stuff to get spread out too but man 2025 is far.

That still looks fine. Though March 2025 is such a long time from now.

Summer or Holiday 2024, would have been better imo.

They were in this situation the moment they greenlit the project.
Disney Live action movies are standing on a shaky legs to begin with, not many people are fans of them.

Then you got the incels who got their claws into it because a POC playing Snow white is their 9/11.
Then you got the whole thing with the Dwarves, the set pictures that i still dont get if they were real or just placeholder or so...really weird reports on that.

Now super clunky CGI dwarves in the first look?
The movie has everything against it and causes too much drama for it being forgotten 4 months after Release.

Like look at Ariel...all this outrage over so much...just for it all to die down once the movie hit Disney+.
Absolutely pointless drama dialed up to 11 on this too.

There's something about the CGI, the composition, the weird blurriness that's obviously there to hide the lack of texture on the digital dwarf models, the proportions... The whole thing just screams oddball horror to me, like Beau Is Afraid or Alex Garland's Men. It looks like traditional Snow White, but also doesn't.

More time to fix the iffy VFX, because the dwarves are ugly. Ziegler looks fine as the titular character.

They'll fix it up. Either way, still nowhere near as bad as the literally plastic-y CG from the Pinocchio remake.

Also, really don't know why people are bad-mouthing Zegler. Bunch of racists, if you ask me. Same crap that happened with Halle Bailey.

Ziegler is a star in the making and RW people don’t like it. They’re fine with Jenna Ortega for some reason but a WOC like Ziegler or Bailey sets them off.

I think Disney is scraping the barrel with their live action remakes of their animated classics now. The 2017 BATB was underwhelming and the 2019 TLK remake ticked me off. I pretty much swore off that sub genre, but I did watch sections of TLM remake. Halle has presence, she sung beautifully and that cameo appearance of Jodi Benson was heartwarming— but I had no desire to see the rest of it.

No issues with Rachel Zegler as a talent, but these remakes are soulless cash grabs. The Little Mermaid is a perfect example. Case in point, Under the Sea and Kiss the GIrl. Under the Sea, the lyrics no longer match what's happening onscreen. Kiss the Girl was just deadened and lifeless. In the animated movie, when you see that sequence, the whole lagoon comes alive and it's vibrant and romantic. In the live-action movie it's just garbage. King Triton was totally phoned in.

Not sure what they are going for with the dwarves in this movie. But this is a fairy tale, so whatevs.

I'm confused though. Was this always the plan to make the seven dwarves look like this? Or did they change the style somewhere? Were the people in the set photos just stand-ins or the live stand-in actors?

The Snow White in those older "set photos" is not even Rachel Zegler
Seems like that might've been some trolling by people unconnected to the film, trying to get the incels upset about "woke dwarves"

It was confirmed to be stand in actors for the film by Disney.

I'll wait until the trailer to give it my final thought. But.... things are not looking so good in my opinion. But I'm also one that has not been a fan of most of the live action adaptions. There has only been a couple that I actually enjoyed with The Little Mermaid being the best ones of recent times and I thought Dumbo was "OK".
