Seeing those dwarves on Youtube is one thing, seeing them in Dolby is like locking eyes with Satan himself. It's sad that this looks so dreadful, Zegler deserved a better film.

Snow White had extensive reshoots and changed the dwarves to this dreadful CGI abomination to avoid backlash, to the point where the whole film had to be delayed a whole year. Its the cost Disney wants us to know. The funny thing about accounting, especially Hollywood accounting, is that you can move costs around to get whatever number you want.

It is.

There are extensive talent and licensing deals attached to it being a theatrical release , aside from the (obvious) ones with theatrical exhibitors.

It looks fine. I think they needed to lean more into making this kid-friendly rather than nostalgia bait for adults; because I don't really think that's the audience that would show up for this.

There was gonna be criticism of the dwarves no matter which way Disney went with them.

I thought that Barbie, while not my cup of tea, looked very promising from the very first teaser trailer, with a clear and well realized directorial vision.

Snow White just looks like crap. Impersonal, cookie cutter, shoddily done, ultra expensive "we'll fix it in post" studio slop.

Comparing Barbie and this is like comparing apples and a steak.
People gave Barbie a chance right from the start while Disney had already pushed it by even announcing this.

The next Disney low effort live action version of one of the beloved disney animated classics.
While Barbie was a genuinely great idea right from the start.

You can shave something of the negativity off because a lot is run by the usual grifters, but that still leaves a incredible different approach to how the public was feeling about the barbie movie versus this.

The backlash towards Zegler has been horrendous but there is validity towards every other criticism about this between Gal Gadot, the horrifying CGI dwarves, etc.
