Classic twin movie syndrome. Two movies with a similar foundation, coming out close or pretty close to eachother.

In 2012 it was Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror and next year has Hercules and Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Could 2015 have competing Jungle Book movies from WB and Disney?

Frankly, this is humorous. Is The Jungle Book that compelling of a story to remake..twice in one year?

Inarritu Drops Out Of Warners' "Jungle Book"

By Garth Franklin Thursday January 9th 2014 04:03PM
Filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ("Babel," "21 Grams") has dropped out of talks to direct the new live-action "The Jungle Book" adaptation at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Based on Rudyard Kipling's classic India-set 1894 short-story collection, the tales focus on Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves whose friends include a bear named Baloo and a panther by the name of Bagheera.
The story has been adapted several times for the screen, most notably as the 1967 animated film and again in 1994 as a live-action feature starring Jason Scott Lee, Lena Headey and Cary Elwes.
Scheduling conflicts have been given as the reason for Inarritu's departure, with the project now an open directing assignment. Callie Kloves penned the script while Steve Kloves will produce.
The project isn't to be confused with a rival project in the works at Disney which Jon Favreau is attached to direct.

I don't understand why news about the WB Jungle Book is being posted here. Meh.

Disney already did a live action remake of Jungle Book.

So I mean...why?

I'm going to be a hypocrite and post WB Jungle Book news.

Ron Howard in Talks to Direct THE JUNGLE BOOK for Warner Bros.
It appears that filmmaker Ron Howard may soon be heading back into family friendly territory. A month after director Alejandro González Iñárritu fell off the project, Heat Vision reports that Howard is currently in talks to take the helm of Warner Bros.’ live-action The Jungle Book adaptation. The studio is in a bit of a race to get the project off the ground, as Jon Favreau is helming another live-action adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling book for Disney with an October 2015 release date already set. Warner Bros.’ picture is being produced by Steve Kloves, who wrote all but one of the Harry Potter films for the studio, and his daughter Callie Kloves wrote the screenplay for this new Jungle Book film. Should Howard sign on, he would also produce this new adaptation.

If Howard signs on to direct The Jungle Book, it would mark his first family film since directing 2000’s Dr. Seuss adaptation The Grinch. The filmmaker has gravitated towards more dramatic or non-fiction fare as of late, most recently directing the very solid F1 racing drama Rush. Heat Vision’s report says it’s unclear whether The Jungle Book would be Howard’s next film, as he has a pretty busy slate at the moment. The filmmaker is currently in post-production on the historical drama Heart of the Sea, but he’s also set to helm the Dan Brown adaptation Inferno for Sony with a December 2015 release date looming. He also recently signed on to helm the true story Mena for Universal.

Assuming Warner Bros. is racing to get its Jungle Book film out before or around the same time as Disney’s, the studio is likely hoping Howard will tackle to Kipling adaptation first, which would mean he would have to step off or delay Inferno. For those unfamiliar with the story, Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 novel revolves round an orphaned boy named Mowgli who is raised by animals in the Indian jungle.

So I mean...why?

Well, it wasn't very good to begin with.

Not saying this will be better but maybe they can actually stick to the book for once. Not sure which direction either the Disney or the WB version will go.

Should I just make a Live Action WB one? I don't want all the news for both coming here.

Maybe..at the same time, is anyone clamoring for two Jungle Book threads?

Wait. Ron can't make the 2015 deadline when 'Inferno' is getting ready to shoot too. I can see Inferno getting pushed back at this point, and Jungle Book being Ron's priority. Or not.

If WB's Jungle gets pushed back to 2016, and Disney's version bombs, then what? It's a weird situation to be in, and I think Ron's better off with Inferno at this point.

Cumby is Baloo, duh. :o

What superb casting. Makes me wonder who they're going to get to play Baloo and Bagheera.

Damn. Disney's putting together a very good cast.
