We are thrilled to announce that “Gigantic,” inspired by “Jack and the Beanstalk,” is coming to theatres in 2018! The film will be directed by Tangled's Nathan Greno and will feature music from Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez!

Disney Animation is developing an adaption of the classic fairytale “Jack and the Beanstalk,” Disney Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter announced on Friday at its D23 expo.

“Gigantic” will be directed by “Tangled’s” Nathan Greno, while Dorothy McKim will produce. Set in Spain during the age of discovery, the film follow Jack as he befriends a female giant in the new remake.

Snow Queen!!!!!! :argh:

:o

Haha, a minute apart! Snow's came first, but I'll add Sawyer's descriptor to the title.

Director of Tangled and music from the Frozen team sounds like a winner.

Well which music from Frozen? The sung songs or the orchestral score?

Eh, hopefully it will be a full on musical then instead of dropping out of the third act.

Yeah I'm hoping for a musical as well. I always hope for musicals.

I want captain America: civil war to be a musical

The one interesting thing about this adaptation is that it takes place in Spain.

So what's the Disney animation film for 2017, if Moana is 2016 and this is 2018?
Wreck it Ralph 2?

Love the image. Love it. Totally for this.

I'm curious what kind of animation style it's going to go for.

Just read on IMDB that Frozen 2 is set for a 2018 release.

Nothing, same as there are none this year. Disney is now on a 2 film every other year schedule. 2016 is Zootopia and Moana, 2018 is Gigantic and Frozen 2.

Good. Now they can focus on Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, Cars 5 and Zootopia 2. :o

Pixar can continue doing sequels but WDAS, I prefer them to make 1 and done films.

Its a shame that this one gets canceled, they have also canceled King of the Elves which sounded interesting and I was looking forward to another fairy tale based Disney animated film.

“Sometimes, no matter how much we love an idea or how much heart goes into it, we find that it just isn’t working”

Translation:

"Moana didn't rake in a billion dollars, so we're pulling the plug on original movies and playing it safe with sequels."

It surely made a lot of more money than Cars 3. And it made more than movies like Wreck-It Ralph and The Incredibles (at least when you're not adjust the numbers for inflation).
