Disney's Haunted Mansion reboot (Justin Simien)

I'm down for Jungle Cruise, but I'm still waiting for the Matterhorn movie.

You're about 50 years too late. It's actually based on 1959's Third Man on the Mountain.

What? Why doesn't anyone ever tell me these things before I embarrass myself on the internets. :(

And another thing... If Del Toro is going to make a movie with Disney, why the heck does it have to be a reboot of a crappy movie that no-one asked for in the first place? Why is he not doing freaking Gargoyles?

Yeah, seriously, on top of Disney not using the concept of the Gargoyles cartoon for a movie they will title "Gargoyles", they could've had Del Toro do it! Seriously, what could've been more perfect.

You done ****ed up, Disney. You done ****ed up. :csad:

Those are two very excellent questions....that cannot be answered by our feeble human minds. :p

"We are not returning Eddie Murphy's calls."

:hehe:

Cracked me up for some reason.

Great news, so far Del Toro will ONLY co-write and produce the Haunted Mansion for now, he will announce his next directing project next week.

DCC 2010: Exclusive Guillermo del Toro Gives Clarification On Haunted Mansion
By Kellvin Chavez on July 22, 2010

Earlier today Guillermo del Toro surprised the 6,500 fans gathered at Comic-Con with the announcement that he is currently developing a new film for The Walt Disney Studios based on the classic Disney theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

A lot of folks thought he was directing the project but Guillermo del Toro himself emailed me personally to provide an exclusive clarification for LatinoReview readers.

One thing for sure HE WILL ANNOUNCE HIS NEXT DIRECTING PROJECT NEXT WEEK.

Here is what del Toro had to say:

Only producing and co-writing with Matthew Robbins for now. I would love to direct it if the timing allows it but I already have the next directing project ready to be announced in a week or so. Big and unexpected and full of invention. Haunted Mansion is, however, so perfect- because into it I can finally pour decades- most of my life- of admiration and veneration for Rolly Crump, Marc Davis and Claude Coats and the incredibly stylized and impossibly cool world they created. The movie I am imagining and that I dream of bringing forth is a full-on shrine to the feel we had as kids going into these E-ticket rides. For some people Haunted Mansion is just a ride for others, like me, who got caught in it at the precise age, it is almost a way of life.

G

So there you have it folks.

Stay tuned as he will say what he is directing next.

Thank god. Crossing my fingers that it will be the Frankenstein movie.

exciting....not a big fan of Del Toro but I always thought there was something very fun to do with the Haunted mansion concept !:awesome:

So this according to the first post will not be a comedy like the first film but have some comedy aspects?? I just rather have a serious movie done here.

you gotta remember that it's Disney so it has to have some sort of light humor

if it's done in the same vein as the Pirates movies then it should be good

pfft!... what did i tell you guys...

take guillermo del toro directing rumors with less than a grain of salt.
just look at his imdb page... he's attached to like 20 films... he will probably only direct one

The Haunted Mansion is still an awesome ride. And it's pretty twisted, even for a Disney ride. Someone like del Toro could have some good fun with it - especially things like the stretching room.

This.

After the success of the original POTC and then the rest of the franchise, I was expected the same from The Haunted Mansion...then I heard Eddie Murphy was attached. Sure enough, the movie was trash. I had always hoped they'd give it another shot, and am glad they are - and way sooner than I thought they would. Looking forward to it.

But the ride has a dark sense of humor about it. If they kept the tone similar, it could work well.

It's been a while since I've been on the ride, but I always liked the part where the walls started stretching upwards. This should be fun.

glad to hear del toro will be able to leave his mark on the project, while still go on to direct a different film, which he claims is a straight horror film. sounds good to me.

Is this haunted room actually stretching???

I also love it when the people working the ride tell everyone please "move your wretched bodies into the dead center of the room." :funny:

Been on the ride since the recent renovations? The Bride in the attic section would be a good addition to a film that they're trying to market as more 'scary' than they are 'funny'.

I love The Bride in the attic, it's really creepy and the effects are great. I've been on both the Disney World and Disneyland versions, but I haven't gotten to see the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay that they do at Disneyland during Halloween. I heard that is amazing.

I was pretty bummed when I was in DL last year and they shut the ride down to work on the NBC theme and re-opened it just a day or 2 after I left. But yeah, the Bride was a great addition and made the attraction all the more creeptastic. It'd be cool if they found a way to work it into the film somehow.

the Bride is cool and creepy

Del Toro can have loads of fun with that in creating a back story for her, the Killer Bride

I was there in May 2008, so luckily it was open as usual, but my friend kept telling me how I had to come back for the NBC theme...but alas, I live on the east coast so I haven't been back yet. I'm going to WDW this fall, I'll have to check out the ride again to see what else works for a movie.

It sounds like the movie is going to be based around the hatbox ghost, who was part of the original DL ride but was cut because the effect never worked right (his head was supposed to disappear and reappear in his hatbox).

There's a whole background of that and the original bride here:

i'm amazed at the hate for this, do you guys know the details of the haunted mansion, if you read the actual story yeah the murphy film did use part of it but it changed it hugely.

i'm looking forwards to this, the whole backstory of the ride is superb

and anyway you can all go to hell i'm praying his next gig is masters of the universe
