Not sure how to feel about this song. It's no How Far I'll Go.

Deservedly. You can get away with a lot in a musical if the music is great. It wouldn't save this movie with no other changes, but it would make a significantly more enjoyable experience. But this feels like the low rent version you'd get from... well, a mid TV show. Some of Miranda's extracurriculars are... embarrassing. And some of those live action songs are big misses. But the guy's talented and knows what he's doing. After Moana 2, We All Owe Lin-Manuel Miranda an Apology
Without him, every song in the sequel is as flimsy and disposable as the last.www.vulture.com
The Vulture coming after the soundtrack.

I mean, Dwayne Johnson is desperate enough to do that but Disney might have calmed down enough after bouncing back from the terrible 2023 they had to pull a stunt like that. Let's not tempt fate though. So with TWO theatrical Moana series with all the same characters going on at the same time, this will all eventually lead to a Roger Rabbit multiverse live-action version meeting animated version movie, right?
I mean, it’s Disney!
The real question is: given the reception to the music in this movie, for 2028's live action Moana 2, do they get Lin back to write an all-new soundtrack? So with TWO theatrical Moana series with all the same characters going on at the same time, this will all eventually lead to a Roger Rabbit multiverse live-action version meeting animated version movie, right?

I had to look up what he did for Disney. They last worked with him on Disenchanted but they really should let him have a go at one of their animated movies in the last 15 years since the Disney Revival/2nd Renaissance. For some reason I thought he collaborated with Alan Menken for the songs on Hercules (he didn't) but he worked on Pocahontas, Hunchback and Enchanted. He's basically legend status for Hunchback alone. Also he apparently worked on Mulan but all the songs were deleted and they went with someone else. I'm surprised he even came back to work with them after that. With Wicked being such a success, I hope Disney brings back Stephen Schwartz to help write some new songs on future projects.
The Pocahontas soundtrack had some of Disney's most iconic songs... Minus Savages which had questionable lyrical choices. He's certainly better than Menken's other writing partner, Glenn Slater (who likes to write lists as songs).I had to look up what he did for Disney. I get it but it's pretty catchy for a tune with racist lyrics. The Pocahontas soundtrack had some of Disney's most iconic songs... Minus Savages which had questionable lyrical choices. He's certainly better than Menken's other writing partner, Glenn Slater (who likes to write lists as songs).
