Animation Disney's 'Moana'

I get it but it's pretty catchy for a tune with racist lyrics. :o

Kidding aside, you're never gonna find it on Disney playlists at a kids' birthday party but taking into consideration that the questionable lyrics are the point of the song and pointing out the errors of both sides' mob mentality, musically it's a well-constructed piece, especially the part in the reprise where Pocahontas joins in.

Pocahontas is my least favorite of the Renaissance movies (not counting Rescuers Down Under) but the songs are all indeed bangers.
Racism aside. There's some bum lines in that song.

They really weren't messing around with Pocahontas and Hunchback. Disney was like, "Okay, these kids watched Mufasa die. Let's see how much they can handle." They really dialed it back with Hercules, which is ironic given the source material.

So with TWO theatrical Moana series with all the same characters going on at the same time, this will all eventually lead to a Roger Rabbit multiverse live-action version meeting animated version movie, right?

I mean, it’s Disney!
The Multiverse of, Moananess!

It's definitely doing well due to the goodwill of the first film. I really hope Disney doesn't learn that people will watch lesser quality sequels due to brand recognition. I don't want to relive the straight to video Disney sequels era ever again.

U

or, people like the film, despite all the hand wringing. P” But… IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A TV SHOW!” People don’t care about that.
They just want to spend time with Moana Again. To them She’s FAMILY!
Oh I'm well aware that audiences don't care. Much worse movies have made more money, after all. But Disney still went about it the wrong way. Why couldn't we have a properly made film closer in quality to the first that wasn't cobbled together from a show while at the same time waiting for Lin Manuel Miranda to be available to come back and work on it? If they didn't go into a blind panic mode after the failures of movies like Strange World and Wish, it would have resulted in a much better product for Moana 2.

They'll always have Pixar to fall back on. That's why it's there. :o

At least Inside Out 2 was always meant to be a movie from the start. The only wrongdoing there was shortchanging the rest of the cast besides Poehler and thus causing Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling to walk.

I loved Moana 1. And look this movie is just fine. It legit could've been worse given the conditions, so I'm glad it wasn't a trainwreck. But that said, it does pain me that Disney didn't have enough respect for the Moana brand to just scrap or delay this to give it the proper care it deserved. Feel like a great Moana 2 is something we were robbed if they had just committed to making a movie in the first place, which it deserved anyway.

With Deadpool and Wolverine and Inside Out 2 (I love it, but it’s a sequel to another established IP) and now this, prepare for Disney to keep on not learning anything and cash in more on nostalgia. Though, considering who we recently elected, I shouldn’t be surprised by a lot of American audiences’s poor judgment.

Though, I guess on the bright side, if their animated content keeps on doing better and their live action remakes keep tanking, maybe they’ll get the memo to stop the live action stuff and go back to doing more animation, which is something I would absolutely be fine with.

Wish played it way too safe... And still made it complicated.

I still haven’t seen it because of negative reception at the time it came out putting me off of watching it, so I’ll take your word for it.

I will give credit to Inside Out 2 for not resetting and regressing everything back to square one to rehash the first film again and actually maintaining continuity and keeping everybody’s character development from the first film intact. It feels like a natural progression of what happened in the first film and not just a complete lazy rehash, and I have to commend it for that.

I really liked this! Especially the coconut guy. I would happily see a third one

I watched this earlier today at my friend's house with my goddaughter via a screener copy. It wasn't bad but it wasn't very good either. It's on the same level as the better direct to video Disney sequels from back in the day like The Lion King II or Aladdin and the King of Thieves. The new side characters were a fun addition but as I had expected, the plot was mediocre and the songs were bland. I wasn't much a fan of Frozen II's story either but in that case at least the songs made up for it. Every song in the first Moana was on point but here the only one that was even semi-memorable was "Beyond".

Gonna be fun seeing this rehashed in live action in about 5 years. :o
