Hair ye! Hair ye! Disney Channel is going to extend the tale of Tangled with an animated show.

The network announced on Wednesday that it has commenced production on Tangled, a series about a princess with magical hair that is based on Disney’s 2010 big-screen animated hit of the same name—which, in turn, is based on the fairy tale of Rapunzel. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi have signed on to reprise their roles as kidnapped princess Rapunzel and swashbuckling thief Eugene, a.k.a. Flynn Rider.

The last chapter in the Tangled story was revealed in 2012 with a short film called Tangled Ever After short film, which premiered in theaters in front of the 3-D re-release of Beauty and the Beast. It’s set on the wedding day of Rapunzel and Eugene. The TV show, which is slated to premiere in 2017, takes place after the movie but before the short film, and follows Rapunzel as she gets to know her parents, her kingdom, and the citizens of Corona. According to the press release: “Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel’s youth, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman.”

The show will feature familar faces such as Eugene, chameleon Pascal, horse Maximus, and the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs, as well as a new main character: Cassandra, a strong-willed handmaiden who also serves as Rapunzel’s confidant.

The duo responsible for the movie’s original score, composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, also will serve as songwriters on the series, which was developed by executive producer Chris Sonnenburg (Enchanted) and co-executive producer Shane Prigmore (The Lego Movie).

I miss the days when the animated Disney films almost always got tv continuation/prequel series. Many of which lived up to the films, in one way or the other.

True (I'm still bummed that we never got a Mulan TV show, instead of a terrible DTV sequel). Well I guess that since Frozen is getting the film sequel, Tangled getting a TV show is a nice consolation prize. I wonder if they'd be able to get any of the original VA's to be on the show?

Yeah, i remember the tv shows for Aladin, Little Mermaid and Hercules being pretty good. I also liked what they seemed to have planned for Atlantis.

Oh I missed that part. Getting the two most important actors back is a good start. Usually that doesn't happen (although the HTTYD TV show managed to get a few of the film VA's to come back).

The poor king is going to have a heart attack. He gets his daughter back for the first time since she was a baby (18 years ago), only to discover that she's now a "rebellious adventure-loving teenager). Maybe it'll even be enough to get him to TALK

It already says it'll be on Disney Channel. Disney XD is mostly targeted at boys anyway.

She should keep the short dark hair. 1. It just looks better imo, 2. it fits in with her character arc throughout the film, and 3. she has the short hair in both the short film (which is set AFTER this show apparently) and her Frozen cameo.

but why does the promo image have her with long blonde hair again?

maybe it's just for the promo image......but I guess we'll see.
