Doug Jones: No Word on Silver Surfer
Source: Edward Douglas October 25, 2007

Earlier today, Superhero Hype! had a chance to talk to actor and creature performance artist Doug Jones when we visited the set of Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and after talking to him about the new characters he plays (which sadly we won't be able to reveal for a few months at least), we did get a few questions in about whether he might don that special silver suit to do a bit more performance capture for the Silver Surfer, particularly in the proposed spin-off film.

"I know as much as you do about that; I wish I knew more," he answered. "I suppose they have a writer hired who's been talking about it at Comic-Con, so that's how I heard about him. As far as the timing goes, don't know. As far as whether they're going to come back for me again, I'm contracted for two more, whether they exercise that contract is up to them. I would like to..."

And as far as providing his own voice for the character in future films after having the voice dubbed by Laurence Fishburne? "I would like the opportunity," he responded.

Check back early next week for a brief preview of our visit to the set of Hellboy II: The Golden Army at Korba Studios in Hungary.

I know the actors are normally last to know but this isnt looking good so far, we have heard little to nothing about an SS movie and i'm getting a bit worried.

Wait till production is done on Wolverine, I'd expect to hear something then.

When X3 was wrapping up it's shoot, Fox started talking about FF2, so I would expect the same this time. Wolverine should wrap before summer, so lets hope something happens by then for either a Surfer spin off or F4-3! That's assuming that Ralph Winter will be involved with one or both of them.

Actually we had confirmation almost immediately after opening weekend from the first movie....I'm not sure if that was when X3 was wrapping, but I know that it was confirmed within a couple of days of the opening weekend.

That's true, I remember the trade adds with the movie's b.o. and a line saying something like 2007 will be Fantastic, too.

Which is another reason i am worried about the status of the SS movie. At this point i'm not too bothered about FF3 (IMO they wont get a better villain/s than SS and Big G), but an SS movie has the scope to show us something different, something we havent seen before, provided they get the right people to make it, so it is something i really want to see.

Poor Doug Jones, he works so hard for roles where he's not appreciated nor do they even use his voice.

I think it's crap they didn't use his voice for his roles in Hellboy and Silver Surfer. His voice would've fit much better than Fishburne and David Hyde Pierce, who did not work as those characters at all.

No one knows at the moment...

What we have heard is....

*possible director chosen
*a script has been chosen....

But who knows...

The strike is slowing a lot of things down right now. Though SS and FF3 seemed to be rather questionable before it happened.

It feels like it's going the way of Daredevil and Ghost Rider now.

Dare I say it . . . they won't get sequels along with FF2 :p .

I don't think we'll get anymore news about this movie anytime soon. Marvel is already working on a bunch of other movies so I'm just giving this time. Besides, I really don't want to get my hopes up because the movie could be bad. With spin-offs like Elektra running around, until I see trailers I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.

^The thing about an SS movie though is that it has so much more potential than an Elektra movie ever did. SS has the scope to show us something different, on the level of Star Wars with his storylines in the comics.

If they just get the right director, etc, we could be in for something very special.
