The tv show Sliders was about alternate realities, but do you believe there are any? Please discuss your views.

I definitely believe or would like to believe alternate realities exist. I believe in the many-worlds interpretation. Also, I am a pretty big astronomy buff so when there are discussions about black holes, I like to think that maybe black holes are possibly wormholes to alternate universes. Who knows?

i don't think there's really any reason to believe they do. it generally comes out of avoiding the grandfather paradox in time travel stories, but since there's no reason to believe time travel is possible (in any way that could result in a grandfather paradox) then parallel dimensions aren't likely either.

then there's free will generating other universes but there's not much evidence for freewill either.

also if time is infinite then everything will happen anyway in one universe just one after another.

I tend to believe in things like this. I think there is quite a lot that we don't understand about life and the universe.

Yes. In a parallel universe I am Pervchek the Elder, Lord and Emperor of Citi Alpa 5. He appears in my mirror and I give him advice sometimes.

Not only do they exist, but this is the evil mirror universe.

There's an alt. reality where L. Ron Hubbard made the big sci-fi franchise and Gene Roddenberry started a wacky space religion.

Take the example of Shrodinger's Cat. Imaginary box, imaginary cat, put imaginary cat in your imaginary box. Now imagine a tiny radioactive particle that may or may not decay in 1 hour (sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't), and imagine a bottle of poison gas that only gets triggered to open when the particle decays and place it in the box with the cat. After 1 hour the box must be opened. When the hour is up, just before the box is opened, the cat is both alive and dead - and you have at least two alternate realities, one in which the cat is alive and one in which it is dead.

I read Stephen Hawking's The Grand Design. It talked about multiple universes and alternate realites. Good book. I enjoyed it.

I bet my alternate self isn't a loser like the real me is.

interestingly enough schrodinger's cat was originally a thought experiment to show the absurdities (and thus unscientificness) of quantum mechanics.

oh and your example leads to an imaginary alternative universe which i'm fine with.

I hope so, so I can travel to an alternate universe where my life doesn't suck and murder myself then take my place.....or have sex with myself just to say that I did. Either way, good times.

That's true. Like when you clone yourself and have sex with it. It's *********ing.

It'll be gold when somebody tells you to go f*** yourself.

"Already did."

Interesting.

They have to, how else can you explain Charlie Sheen thinking he's winning?

As a scientist, I kinda have to believe that all or most things are possible. However, I think parallel universes are more likely than alternate. I mean ones that exist on-top of the one we live in except it occupies a different space.
