I'm loving the Spider-Man stories we've been getting lately (Not counting OMD).
I'm just loving that we seem to FINALLY have passed the era of every issue being the issue where "nothing will ever be the same" or "the most important battle of Spider-Man's career", etc.
Funny that people would complain about it ever issue for a few years, and now that that's stopped they are too busy complaining about something else to notice.
well...to be honest thats a bit harsh on the book.
right now its just mediocre, but thats really the stuff that we've seen already happen.
there have been some stand out issues like zeb wells arc.
I'm going to read new ways to die...but so far none of the issues had me on the edge of my seat. like I just HAD to know whats going to happen next.
Agreed! BND was kick ass, Kraven's First Hunt is great, and I absoloutely can't wait for New Ways to Die.I'm loving the Spider-Man stories we've been getting lately (Not counting OMD).
Harsh? What happened in OMD was harsh lol.
Heh Im sorry...I just cant stand to be given "mediocre" issues after all this "The married Spider-man is holding us down" mentality. Fine he's not married anymore. Where are all the "amazing" Spider stories?
Does no one else see a pattern with these spiderman stories? We get a bunch of mediocre stories for a long while, until one writer comes along and has the balls to redefine Spiderman and generate some excellent refreshing stories. We get that for a while, and then Marvel decides to undo everything that writer did and return to "classic" tales which the readers hate. Think about it, Remember J.M. Dematteis? He redefined Spiderman profoundly and turned out some truly amazing work, and then what does marvel do? They undo his greatest story ever by saying that aunt may didnt really die and it was just an actor that died in #400. And just like that, a beautiful work of art is ruined. And we wont even get into baby may. Then after Dematteis left, they returned with the "reboot" and gave use "classic" style spiderman stories that everybody hated until...ta daa! JMS comes in to save the day and once again redefines Spiderman to critical acclaim. Then what does Marvel do? Well, the rest is history...does anyone else notice this pattern?

Not including the current team of writers, of the 9 writers to ever have a run on Amazing Spider-Man, JMS ranks around 7th or 8th place.... behind (in no particular order) Stan Lee, Marv Wolfman, Roger Stern, Len Wein, Gerry Conway, JM DeMattheis & arguably David Michelinie... only Howard Mackie ranks worse...
JMS had his moments, but he fumbled the ball on a lot of his "arcs" and gave us a really lame duck for ASM #500.
