Yes, yes and yes.:o

You literally have to have an agenda completely different than what the fans have to screw up Spider-Man comics.

What a joke. Thanks C. Nolan for mocking the phonies running S-M's mediums.:yay:

I'm loving the Spider-Man stories we've been getting lately (Not counting OMD).

They've been nothing to ride home about.
but i'll give them one thing. they DO feel more like spidey stories than what we've been reading for a VERY long time.

I'm just loving that we seem to FINALLY have passed the era of every issue being the issue where "nothing will ever be the same" or "the most important battle of Spider-Man's career", etc.

Funny that people would complain about it ever issue for a few years, and now that that's stopped they are too busy complaining about something else to notice.

I had no complaints before OMD.

I think the Spidey books are better than they have been during the last 20 years, barring a few exceptions...

:yay:

Well...ASM has been pretty awful for a while now with the whole BND deal going on. It's just been way too inconsistent and the title lacks any type of direction. That being said, ASG and USM are still very good.

So...I mean, while I'm not collecting the supposed "flag ship" title for my favorite character, I am getting my Spider fix in other ways.

well...to be honest thats a bit harsh on the book.
right now its just mediocre, but thats really the stuff that we've seen already happen.

there have been some stand out issues like zeb wells arc.
I'm going to read new ways to die...but so far none of the issues had me on the edge of my seat. like I just HAD to know whats going to happen next.

Harsh? What happened in OMD was harsh lol.

Heh Im sorry...I just cant stand to be given "mediocre" issues after all this "The married Spider-man is holding us down" mentality. Fine he's not married anymore. Where are all the "amazing" Spider stories?

True, but some of these writers probably didn't have anything at all to do with OMD.
They just might be in it to write Spidey.

Think about how JMS got screwed over....and how ever one hated him for plot lines that he was basically forced to exploit. :csad:

The only writer thats been alluding to the probably the most hated and controversial story ever is Dan slott.

with his faust and robert carr reference.
his constant reference to what was the marriage.
and him breaking the forth wall (in the asm issue with 3 perspectives)
he may or may not have done it, but on the front page of the db it says INTERNET ANGRY OVER COMIC BOOK.

obviously a reference to OMD.

Does no one else see a pattern with these spiderman stories? We get a bunch of mediocre stories for a long while, until one writer comes along and has the balls to redefine Spiderman and generate some excellent refreshing stories. We get that for a while, and then Marvel decides to undo everything that writer did and return to "classic" tales which the readers hate. Think about it, Remember J.M. Dematteis? He redefined Spiderman profoundly and turned out some truly amazing work, and then what does marvel do? They undo his greatest story ever by saying that aunt may didnt really die and it was just an actor that died in #400. And just like that, a beautiful work of art is ruined. And we wont even get into baby may. Then after Dematteis left, they returned with the "reboot" and gave use "classic" style spiderman stories that everybody hated until...ta daa! JMS comes in to save the day and once again redefines Spiderman to critical acclaim. Then what does Marvel do? Well, the rest is history...does anyone else notice this pattern?

I've noticed that pattern with EVERY ongoing comic character. It's just they way comics work.

Not including the current team of writers, of the 9 writers to ever have a run on Amazing Spider-Man, JMS ranks around 7th or 8th place.... behind (in no particular order) Stan Lee, Marv Wolfman, Roger Stern, Len Wein, Gerry Conway, JM DeMattheis & arguably David Michelinie... only Howard Mackie ranks worse...

JMS had his moments, but he fumbled the ball on a lot of his "arcs" and gave us a really lame duck for ASM #500.

:csad:

To each his own I guess.....

David Michelinie and JM DeMattheis are probably my two fav Spider writers.

Michelinie had the character down perfectly. The humor flowed so easily. Could read his version of the character over and over again.

Welcome to Writing Superhero Brand Comics 101. You're about forty years late to class.

I agree why does everyone see JMS' run with rose-tinted specs? He was just fortunate his run came after Mackie's, would it have seemed as impressive after Stern or Conway's run?

I wasn't really comparing him to any other writers...
We can all acknowledge he is a solid writer. but his run wasn't perfect.

I bowed out of modern Spider-Man continuity a while back because I didn't like where they were taking the characters. The whole Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn's secret love children was the final nail in the coffin as far as I was concerned. However I've been keeping up with USM which has been my favourite Spider-Man comic book for quite a few years now.

Bendis really knows how to write a good Spider-Man story with cinematic artwork from Bagley and Stuart Immonen to back it up. Great characters and great stories is all Spider-Man really needs, not gimmicks and reboots that have constantly plagued the core titles. I read USM or watch Spectacular Spider-Man for my webhead fix these days.

Each individual issue might not "Stink", but I feel insulted while reading these stories. Honest to goodness insulted. And that's much worse.
