Human evolution makes no sense. I figure if it were true, there would be some sort of species that looks half human and half ape or maybe even apes that actually speak.
Why? Written language, if anything, is a happy accident brought about by agriculture. Apes can sign.

Learn about apes first, and then get back to me.

I am more of a believer in the ancient astronaut theory than 'God' being responsible for evolution. I think the answer lies in our own 'encrypted' DNA/genetics.

Which them brings up the question who created the ancient astronauts. lol

THAT is something no one can answer. It's mysterious, to say the least. However, that doesn't mean there's a 'God'.

I find out hard to believe that this 'God' one Sunday morning decided to experiment and create 'life'.

No I dont. Everything is waaaaaayy too complicated to be created on accident.

Words like "God" and "supernatural" hold a lot of extra meaning, but what if we do find "God" eventually (or have found "Him" already), what then? What if evolution IS guided by "God", but isn't supernatural?

But the theory that ancient aliens created us is perfectly acceptable?

Where did yorkies come from? So by that logic, there should be a half yorkie half wolf running around somewhere.

Fact is, it's a gradual process. There were bipedal apes, they have found skeletons. There were Cromagnum and Neanderthals running around together. The lesser evolved steps were replaced and wiped out. It's why you don't see a Neanderthal today and why there isn't a Yorlf in pet stores. Apes and humans still coexist the same reason why wolfs and Yorkies still coexist; divergent evolution. Apes and humans share a common ancestor like today's wolves and Yorkies share a common ancestor (Yorkies are more a result of selective breeding pressure from man but humans were selectively breed because of natural pressures/adaptation so it's a slightly exaggerated yet still apt comparison).

But the theory that ancient aliens created us is perfectly acceptable?

To be perfectly honest the idea that aliens came to this planet and we are the product of their experiments sounds more probable then the world(universe) being created in 7 days. There is many other fables in the bible and other religions that the idea it was an alien instead of a god also makes more sense(see Zeus)

I'd say it's more than a theory now...pretty-much an absolute certainty. But I don't feel that it makes religion irrelevant, like some may point to.

Indeed. Complicated things don’t just spring into existence; they’re the end result of a very gradual process that accumulates complexity.

Q: What's the greatest force in the universe
A: Compound interest.

Sounds like Clarke's Third Law.

To me, the 'how could it NOT be designed?' stance speaks more to our innate human need for not only a reason behind things, but an aesthetic as well.

It's like...there are a lot of clear, rational and scientific explanations for why something like a planet or star is spherical in space...or why a water droplet is eventually spherical while free-falling. But some still wonder if space was 'designed' that way, that what makes a circle or sphere perfect and symmetrical...or a condition that calls for it...is a conscious design.

I think Neil Tyson Degrasse said it best if there is a god who created the universe why would he waste so much space with nothing there. Beyond that how bad a design is it to have us eat and breath out of the same place. lol

Homo gautengensis
Homo habilis
Homo erectus
Homo antecessor
Homo ergaster
Homo heidelbergensis
Homo neanderthalensis
Homo floresiensis

These are all species of the Homo genus, essentially other species of humanity that Homo sapiens made extinct.

There are actually two parts to it. There is the fact of evolution – that biological change/diversity has occurred. Then there is the theory (natural selection) that explains the mechanism behind the fact.

I suppose the distinction doesn’t matter to a creationist. They reject the first part and insist on using the wrong definition for the second. :cwink:

Sure apes can sign because thats how they communicate, but they don't speak words. There are no ape-people or anything close to that in the present time either. So why were we the only ones to "evolve" the way that we have? Human evolution is just laughable to me honestly. I believe in aliens though. Maybe there is some connection between humans and aliens.

It's just that some take an opposing stance semantically...i.e. 'it's just a theory', as if arrived at out of thin air...whereas in truth it employs the same discipline to arrive at any of the scientific theories that the same people already accept without question. Difference being that a theory about black holes or the like doesn't point to as direct a conflict with religious lore like something that challenges out uniqueness as a species being by divine design.

I think the theory is still fairly young and may have its flaws but it is overall accurate.

Is there another mammal that has evolved a dextrous elongated nose like an elephant....or something with as proportionally long a neck as a giraffe?

Many of our current capabilities in science and knowledge are pretty young compared to how long we've been humans. And our time on Earth as a species is hardly the blink of an eye compared to how long the actual Earth has existed.

I think the problem is that some people aren't willing to accept that things can be beyond their comprehension.

I mean, i'm a fairly intelligent person. I have a degree and I read a lot and can write coherant arguements.

But there is plenty about science and in particular, Evolution, that I don't know or claim to fully understand.

I accept evolution without question because I understand that what other people who are smarter than me have figured out, is right. It's not an idea they have only thought of in concept, or a suggestion they are playing with. It's a scientific theory.

I know that if I WANTED to, I could research it, read up on it and satisfy any questions I had, as long as I was smart enough to understand what I was reading - which I must admit, it's possible I might hit a limit.

It just bugs me so much that some people would rather believe in creationism, because evolution doesn't make sense to THEM.

Because THEY can't understand it. Because they have no idea what they are talking about (like the 'why are there still monkey's arguement').

I'm quite happy to admit that there is plenty I am not intelligent enough to understand. Why can't other people do the same.
