I've debated this many times with many dumbasses and it usually is divided because of the definition of a superhero. What are your opinions on it? Do you need superpowers to be a superhero?

he's got a big brain- not exactly a superpower but he gets by. its a tough question. i don't think he is a superhero but i do class him next superman. they are heroes superman just happens to use a super power.

you could always define superheroes as being super because they are the best at what they do.

ofcourse Batman is a superhero, he wears a costume and uses a Bat gimmick and expensive gadgets to fight crime. Cops are heroes, people like Batman and Superman are Super heroes.

Superheroes are extraordinary individuals who use their abilities for the good of society. Batman certainly is an extraordinary individual.

Depending on who writes him he's a superhero or a antihero

Techincally, he's a hero. But all the physically impossible **** he pulls off makes him a Superhero.

Hero indeed. Not super, but at the peak of human potential.

well I dont think you need major powers to be one and he alot better and even more powerfull then alot of people with super powers.Hes a dark hero.

If you are being pedant.

su·per·he·ro (sū'pər-hîr'ō) pronunciation
n., pl. -roes.

A figure, especially in a comic strip or cartoon, endowed with superhuman powers and usually portrayed as fighting evil or crime.

Batman doesn't have superhuman powers so no; he is a costumed vigilante.

Then is pre extremis Ironman a supehero? Batman has some nice gear.

hero - (n) 1. a man who is admired for doing something extremely brave; 2. a sandwich made of a long loaf of bread filled with meat, cheese, etc.

super - (prefix) 1. more, larger, greater, or more powerful than usual; (adj) 2. extremely good, wonderful

So if Batman is not a wonderful sandwich, then he is not a super hero. However, Batman is greater than the average brave man, thus he is a superhero.

Yes, of course.

I think what we should all be asking oursleves is whether or not Hal Jordan is a hero. He killed all those poor Green Lanterns.

superhero, and i hate to say it, but he's THE GODDAMN BATMAN!! god i feel dirty.... it's about time for my arival.:(

What an absurd question; of course he is a superhero. You don't necessarily need physical superpowers to be a superhero. Sometimes all you need is the right tools. Comics are filled up the wazoo with superheroes who are only considered superheroes due to the tech that they have and not because of their superpowers. How is Batman using his tech to accomplish superhuman feats any different at all than Green Lantern using his ring to accomplish superhuman feats? If he's not a superhero, then neither is Green Lantern or Green Arrow or Iron Man or Steel or Hawkeye.

The idea is that it is theoretically possible for a man today to use technology. We are tool makers after all. But it is not theoretically sound to have a guy fly around using hard light that happens to be green. It is impossible. That is what makes a super power... super.

I happen to agree that all those individuals are superheroes, because being a superhero also has to do with a state of mind, not just physical attributes. The ability to take damage and get up and start it all over again. It's tha drama. A superhero has to have... DRAMA! :) He's like a diva that way... :woot:

I don't consider him a superhero, he IS a superhero.

From AOL's dictionary:
Main Entry: su·per·hero
Function: noun
Pronunciation: -"hir-(")O, -"he-(")rO
: a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers ; also : an exceptionally skillful or successful person

This detracts from more pressing arguments, like weather Batman is gay or not.

<just kidding folks>

he's a little gay. He wears tights so he can distract the bad guys, duh.:oldrazz:

He qualifies as a superhero because of his bravery and that fact that he has physical abilities that eclipse those of any top athlete. Besides, what he said above.
