Do You Eat Expired Food?

So what do you do with food that has expired? Does it even matter to you? Do you throw it out the day it expires or do you wait a while? If it has expired a day or two ago, and there's still plenty of it, will you try to use it all up right away or do you just get rid of it all completely?

For some reason, I can't bring myself to eat or drink something that has expired, even if it expired yesterday or the day before. For some reason, I feel like I would get sick if I used it, even though sometimes my mom tells me to smell it to see if its still fresh, but even if it does smell fresh, I still can't use it, but I leave it for the rest of my family to consume.
 
Depends, some foods I will toss but if it's just a few days pass the date I can eat it
 
I once had sour cream-onion dip that had been sitting in the fridge for over a year. I opened the container, there was no fungus, no odor or smell. I tasted it and it tasted fine. I ate it with chips and it was perfectly okay. Some food are chock-full of preservatives, they could probably survive a nuclear winter. I even eat fruit (ie. tomato) that had fungus growing on it. You simply cut out the part that has the mold or fungus, wash thoroughly and eat it. I've never gotten sick, nor has anybody in my family.
 
Expired foods as in, rotten or bad? Then no, of course not.

But the date on most products is a sell-by date, not necessarily the date that they go bad by. So if it's a day or two after the sell-by, then I don't mind.
 
If it's only been expired for a few days and it still looks good, I'll try to finish it off. If it's milk, however, I'll throw it out. The expiration dates on most gallons of milk I've gotten have been very accurate. Usually one or two days before they're due to expire, I start to notice them going bad.
 
This friend of mine who was from Thailand used to have a little basket full of expired chocolates they would leave by bathroom sink. I asked him about that and they said they use it as a laxative.
 
If it's one day past its expiration sure, other than that, out it goes.
 
I freeze meats, etc and cook it later.

My dad said milk really never expires on the date they put on the carton. It's usually good for a few days after that.
 
All you gotta do is pour some and take a whiff.

If it smells and looks good, yes. And expiration dates are not always the best thing to go by. I find that eggs, for example, stay good long after their expiration date.

I throw it out if it has a bad odor or if there's mold. But what's even worse than expired food, is expired milk. It's disgusting.

I used to have a friend who had that same attitude with the expired foodstuff, would keep food in the fridge for a year etc and then eat it up. He worked in the film indistry as the guy who did sound effects for movies, some of the big ones, Godzilla, King Kong, Poseiden Adventure,....he worked from home, no one could figure out how he got such amazing sounds, until one day I was round at his, he went to the bathroom, with a big tape recorder....
 
Hmmmm....I've eaten Bleu Cheese (cheese that is molded in other words, but safe to eat) and medium-rare steak. Next time I'll eat a rare steak....bloody good.:yay:

I grow peaches and once in a while, during a harvest, I"ll find a worm/larva in a peach...I just cut the area where the worm was eating out and eat the rest. There really is nothing wrong with the rest of it.

When we make jerky, we let meat sit out in a cold cellar for all winter to dry and we store it in the freezer for as long as two years.

Food is food. Our bodies are exposed to a thousand kinds of bacteria, mold, and fungus, and we've survived this long by following instinct. We might as well not lose that trait now.

Ironically, the only time I got food poisoning was when I ate at S'barro's pizza in a mall 12 years ago.
 
S'barro's is gross. Myself and my family members who were helping me move years ago stopped at a rest stop, and S'Barro's was really one of the only places to eat there, and I don't think the food sat well with any of us, the worst being my grandmother, that night. Needless to say, I've not eaten at one since.
 
If your five senses don't tell you something's wrong with the food, then it's fine to eat. Grocery stores put expiration dates on their food and they can put whatever date they want on it.
 
It depends on how bad the food is. Sometimes I keep it in the fridge and hope it's still good.

Well yeah, that's why it says "Best Before" not "Worst After"

It's all in the phrasing.
