You hear it all the time, that women, even the ones that are comedians, are just not as funny as the men, especially when it comes to movies. Usually their role is delegated to playing the straight character to the funnier guy, but I've rarely seen it vice versa. I know most people would say Sarah Silverman since she seems to get a lot of love on here, but in most movies she plays the angry, mean, *****y straight girl. Have their been any movies where you've seen a seriously funny female performance, not just her reaction to something else?

Teresa Mo managed to hold her own quite well against Stephen Chiau in films like THE MAGNIFICENT SCOUNDRELS and LEGEND OF THE DRAGON, as well as turning in fine slapstick performances for ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL, 92 LEGENDARY LA ROSE NOIR, NOW YOU SEE LOVE NOW YOU DON'T and ONCE UPON A TIME A HERO IN CHINA. (Though most people probably know her only from her straight role as Chow Yun-Fat's girlfriend in HARD-BOILED.)

If you want to see funny chicks, watch The Sweetest Thing Unrated Version. I though it was going to be a sh**ty chick-flick, but it's really funny. Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair. Pretty good.

I think we should draw a line her between actresses who are funny in movies/series and actresses who are always funny...even in real life.

In movies/series , you have all these lines that are written for them and that adds to the funniness of them. But once they appear on a talk show , you can barely get a few laughs of then.

To name a few : Jennifer Aniston , Debra Messing , Lindsey Lohan

I say Ellen DeGeneres, even though I don't watch her show often, but when I DO, I always end up laughing on the floor. I recall an episode of TEDS when she just jumped into the lake and swam to shore. It was unexpected, but still comedy gold.
Sarah Silverman IS funny. Very. "It's not cold in here, you're just dying." "We're all gonna die, but not as soon as you guys." I am well aware of how ludicrous and harsh this is, but it still tickles my ball of laughters. I'm so going to be fed to a flock of fiery piranhas once I'm dead for laughing at this. :(

Ellen Degeneres was awesome as Dori in finding nemo, dont know if that counts...

my favorite comidian ever:Tina Fey

and i think Lauren Graham (gilmore girls) can make you laugh anywhere she is...

Gilmore Girls is really a great show.
And i agree , Lauren is funny........and ONE HOT MILF !

Where's it from ?
Full Metal Alchemist. Very good anime. You should check it out. But be warned, you WILL get hooked on if you do. At least that's what my other friends I have recommended it to said. It has 51 episodes altogether and a movie. There's an official FMA thread in the Anime/Manga if you'd like to find out more.

I've been hearing great things about the series. It's on my "to buy" dvd list :woot:

It only took you till now to figure that out. ;)
Most women in general are not funny. Men have always been the leadeing edge on comedy and men in general are funnier than women.
You never hear of women starting shows like 'The Office, 'Curb your enthusiasm'. Just when you think every kind of comedy has been invented a new comedian comes on the scene with a cutting edge style of humour., And they are always men.
Whoopi, Ellen Degenerous, Sarah Silverman? theres gotta be funnier women than that around.

It's probably because they are more i dunno open to all kind of jokes as opposed to making jokes when you're part of a racial minority.
I mean indian comedians have to make an indian joke , black people make traditional black jokes and so forth.

Ellen is always funny. Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls is hilarious. I love people who are witty and sarcastic like that. My friend said I like her because I'm sarcastic like that too. I always have something smart ass to say.

Well what else is he supposed to do? A black person can only make but so many jokes about someone who is white. He or she has to stick to what they know.

And truth be told, bizzare, abstract, and observational humor don't really go over as well with minority crowds as they do with teh white crowds. On occasion it does, but honestly....you'll get booed off the stage if you tried to pull a Dane Cook. We like to hear about racial experiences, it's a part of our life.

Fair enough. I mean I like Ellen cracking on everyday things as much as I like Dave Chapelle talking about black people.

thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard......lol!!!!!

what do you think robbin williams and ellen degenerous jokes about?...white people?...

no....they joke about every day things.

I love Chappelle, but I can only tolerate so much racial humor. It gets old...fast. I like Dane Cook, but also people like Mitch Hedberg (rip), Lewis Black, etc. I like a wide variety in comedy but also about a wide variety of stupid things.

Some black comedians go way too far and start borderlining on racism, if not all the way to it!
