its so hard to find good music today. i hate basically all the music on the radio today and i can't help but look down upon people that are crazy about modern popular music.

Mainstream music was at its best in the 90s.

Henry Rollins is right: There are some great music out there but you'll have to dig it up for yourself. I agree with him. It's just too cynical to say that it ALL sucks. But they have been saying for the past 50 years. You like Nirvana or Tupuc? Guess what? People in their 30's and 40's provably thought Nirvana sucked and Oingo Boingo was the SHEET.

For example, I'm not a fan of pop music, but I think Katie Perry blows 90's Brittney out of the water.

Yep, have to partly agree. The only station I listen to is geared to Classic Rock. And it is the only Rock station in town now (everything else got bought out and is now either hip pop or talk radio)

It gets even worse. Whenever we have big outdoor events, they used to get all sorts of genre bands to play, be it rock, R n B, country, jazz and so forth. Now, I guess the kids that are now controlling the direction music is going, is all the outdoor festivals focus on, so we get stuck with whatever crap they are listening too.

Music is always good.

People who are older than a generation of music tend to not favour it, because they lose the time and inclination to find what they like.

People from the 30's didn't like the Beatles, people who like the Beatles didn't like Take That people who liked Take That don't like One Direction.

You'll probably find that the people of the youngest music consuming generation listen to the widest range, because they're not set in their ways and have a larger back catalogue to explore.

It's that simple.

Unfortunatley, sometimes they go too far with repetitive drum beats and synthetic sounds, without paying attention to melodies or harmonies. Listen Gaga or Beyonce for instance.

Haha that's the point of an electronic drum beat is to be repetitive. House music has a 4/4 beat signature that literally is just bump tiss bump tiss it's the equivalent of a drummer hitting a snare and then a cymbal. Beat machines like the 808 are used for their signature sound and that fact that a human will eventually falter whereas a machine will not.

Synths are still chords and used melodically my friend although you may not prefer the sound the produce. Most pop music these days is borrowing heavily from house and electronic music and sounds generic since they end up paying the same high paid producers to make it and they all suck.

That really couldn't be more wrong. The radio since it's inception has always catered to a mainstream audience and there were far less genres than there are today but people have been hunting for what they consider good music before even the radio was invented.

Agreed about the producers, they are the venom here. Stealing stuff from electronic music and using it BADLY is just painful and pathetic.
