BvS Do you really care what RT critics say?

Do you let RT direct what you watch or influence you viewing pleasure?

  • I never see a movie that is not at least 80% fresh

  • RT? What is that?

  • I live by the RT code and die by the RT code!!

  • Not in the least.

Personally it is very rare for me to actually read reviews but I did in this case just to see the consensus and I didn't give it a second though. The rare times I have seen a review (Maybe 2 times in my whole life and I am 50...err 25 years old) they have never sway me one way or the other. So Ill gladly go see it tomorrow with Mr J. and enjoy every minute of it several times.Critics...bah. Those who can't write or direct critic. Keep the faith gang.:gngl:

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of what critics do.

I've never cared about critics opinions or bandwagons, I will make my own mind up. I wasn't expecting this to be rated all that highly after seeing Lexenberg and Abomination, but as long as my dude Batman and the big screen debut of Wonder Woman are well done and the action is good I think I'll get a dose of enjoyment from the film.

Was expecting a slightly more entertaining "state of the union" speech.

I take them into account when deciding whether to watch a movie. In BvS's case, though, I'll probably see it eventually regardless unless it turns into a Fant4stic level disaster, since it's a sequel to a movie I liked, the setup for the coming shared universe, and a Batman movie (even if it's not "my Batman").

It's also lowered my best guess as to how I'll feel about this movie, and it was enough to shift my prediction from liking it a little to not liking it a little.

While I don't really care what they rate a movie, I do like my movies to do fairly well in reviews to give me a better peace of mind before watching watching them and judging for myself.

Would it have been fun to have BvS receive critical acclaim? Sure. Does it affect my viewing experience? Not in the slightest.

I love Man of Steel and am very excited to see BvS tomorrow evening.

"Professional" critics are people who try to make money by deriving things like pacing, breathing room, blah blah blah. It's not people who will typically enjoy but are more likely to nitpick. They are just people with a platform.

For critics to portray value they need to portray themselves as having a higher standard. Comic movies will be an easy target for them once people grown fatigued of the genre. Which is ironic because the formulaic approach is the one the are most likely to accept.

Enjoy the movie for yourself. Don't let a snob with an agenda ruin what you may feel for a movie before you see it.

As far as influencing my own opinion of a film goes, it has no value to me.

But if we're talking about participating in drastically swaying the general public's perception in this or that direction - especially when it's clearly lazy critique or blatant bias? I take that side of things a bit more seriously.

Let's just take a long look at this:

More than a little not right.

I care about it in the sense that I had hoped DC would have a critically acclaimed movie to silence the Marvel fanboys I see on Facebook all the time. But it's not going to have an effect on if I enjoy the movie or not.

I couldn't give a rats arse, reviews mean nothing. It's what you think that counts.

Been interested in reviews is fine, I mean I will read a few by the likes of Steve Younis of Superman Homepage for example but his rating wouldn't effect me wanting to see something. I think people who live by RT scores and such need to get a grip personally.

Aslong as I like the film and it's a success then I'm happy.

I'm interested what other people or critics say, but it never affects my own experience with a film. I either agree with other people or disagree. That's it. I watched more than enough films in my life to know and understand what I love about movies, what works for me and what doesn't. The older I get, the less I care if somebody likes something or not.

Shocking to see critics response to BvS, because I just can't imagine how bad the movie should be (considering what I saw already) to get a score like this.

I don't let reviews influence my purchase decision for movies, but I also don't disregard it when a movie gets a ton of poor reviews. I've enjoyed movies with RT scores in the 50s and 60s, but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a movie that scored below 50.

If I like the movie, I like the movie.

However, I am comfortable enough with my own tastes that I freely admit to enjoying bad films. The "guilty pleasures," as it were. Death to Smoochy and Batman & Robin, for instance.

So while I don't particularly care what the RT consensus is, 36% is a fundamentally bad movie. Plain and simple. Doesn't necessarily mean I won't enjoy it.

I couldn't tell you the RT score of any movie....I couldn't care less what the RT score for any movie is. I watch movies that look good to me. I don't watch movies that don't look good to me.

This.

At the end of the day, everyone wants the movie they liked to have "good reception" by overall community.

Brilliant way to put it

I'd be lying if I didn't say it stings to read the RT reviews. I saw the movie on Monday and loved it but I'm a super fan who reads the books (on and off) and love their cartoons, Young Justice, JLU and all the new DVD toon movies when they come out.
I guess to non DC fans the movie can be confusing and bloated. Even some fanboys have big problems with it. I REALLY want a DCCU so I'm counting on this movie doing well. I just hope casual movie goers will give it a chance.

This might be the first time I ever looked at RT before seeing a movie. And that's only because I come here. I know RT exists but don't visit the site often prior to now.

I don't even read reviews before I see a film. I go to films usually with very little knowledge, I might watch a trailer, but that's it. The most I will do is watch the actor and director interviews leading up to the film.

Usually my feelings about the film match up with the RT consensus, but there have been times when it didn't.
