This is a debate that keeps happening between people in the Dark Phoenix thread, so here's a full-on thread discussion for it. What do you think Marvel will do with the franchise? Do you think they'll continue the Fox-Men movies and possibly bring them into the MCU or will they COMPLETELY wipe the slate clean and reboot the X-Men into the MCU. I think the obvious choice is obvious but some don't think so.

They're going to reboot the mainline X-men for sure. Deadpool is safe, but I don't know about X-force or the New Mutants.

The are unquestionably going to reboot the mainline X-Men franchise. I don't see how anybody can think otherwise.

Keep Days of Future Past out of the MCU canon. As good as that movie is, it is the main smasher of canon for that world.

I see them rebooting everything except Deadpool. Deadpool will probably continue as-is like he was always there.

Bringing back everything from those versions would simply put too much unnecessary baggage and I just can't see a world where that Dark Phoenix flick turns out well from either a critical or commercial standpoint so they need to go the Homecoming route and start from scratch. Deadpool should be the only survivor of the erasure.

Reboot, but I refuse to vote, because I think the better option is "Reboot into a new timeline, that is *separate* from the Avengers-Earth". Which is to say, I favor Plan Earth 2.

The Deadpool/X-Force franchise is likely to hum along undisturbed by the merger, and it's entirely possible Disney will be interested in superhero properties unconnected to MCU continuity. For example, if that New Mutants film is received positively, 20th Century could be permitted to continue with it. There's clearly a lot of hunger for an MCU X-Men team, though, so we'll see one eventually. The only real question is whether whatever plans are percolating for X-Men 8 at 20th Century will be junked immediately following the transfer of assets late this year or early next, or if Donner and her team will be allowed one more film to close out their saga. What will happen? I don't know, and I don't expect to find out for at least eighteen months.

I'd say reboot. Considering how much of a mess the Fox-X-Men timeline is, that seems to be the perfect option.

reboot this mess. reboot it hard. a reboot to end all reboots.

Of course they will reboot it, but something that I've been wondering since this deal was announced is... will Marvel try to retcon the Deadpool movies into the MCU, and how many of us would be okay with it? I wouldn't.

I'm 99.9% sure Deadpool is staying as-is. Not only it won't be a problem, it's arguably an advantage. Deadpool's all about making fun of superhero inconsistencies and corporate politics. Having Reynolds' Deadpool just wake up in the MCU means the potential for that kind of parodying just skyrocketed.

Exactly. A retcon is not necessary.

I also think Deadpool is safe, but the main X-Men will get rebooted. They won’t confirm an X-reboot until after the X-films are released this year though as there would be no need and there is no point to do that anytime earlier.

I can't see any scenario where they don't reboot the entire franchise, with the exception of Deadpool. And even with that, I could see them doing a soft reboot of sorts just to make incorporating him a bit easier.

Deadpool has no fourth wall anyways. There is no reason to reboot him. Ryan Reynolds could show up in an MCU film with no explanation and that would be perfectly normal with regards to that character. He could just make a snarky comment and that is all the explanation we need.

I personally doubt they would even do a soft reboot. Deadpool is literally the one character you can crossover just because he said so.

If anything a soft reboot would stunt both Deadpool and Feige. The Deadpool franchise is all about poking fun at superhero inconsistencies and corporate politics. The fact it wouldn't make sense would be an advantage, if anything.

Fox timeline has had its time I need for a MCU reboot for X-men. If it’s anything like the Spider-man reboot it may not be my fantasy reboot but I’m beyond sure it’ll get more right than wrong.
Deadpool will and should stay.

Exactly. Do people ask questions about Stan Lee showing up in every film? Deadpool is basically the same thing.

Ehhhhhh... that could work, I guess, but what about his supporting characters?

If all the characters are back at Marvel it probably wouldn't be a problem.

If they can't use them for whatever reason, Deadpool will still probably joke about that. He'll joke about how he wants to **** his wife but can't cuz of the Disney deal or something. Basically whatever happens, Ryan Reynolds just got more ideas to play with.

Anything is possible, but if I were you I wouldn't be so quick to take for granted that Feige and Reynolds will get along just fine. Time will tell.
