Do you think Superman will have a death/near death as part of the plot for Batman v Superman?

the paparazzi shots of the incomplete Superman statue with people laying flowers around it from 2014 still makes me wonder a little :sly:

Welcome influx of new BvS fans to the forum! I greet you with a pun filled meme ;)

haha Knight is pulling the veteran move of trying to help a thread close sooner, nudging the moderator along :hehe:

OP should search beforehand, yes. But it raises a larger question about the way things are set up on this forum. Open Discussion and Rumors/Speculations consolidates too many topics into two main extremely fast moving threads that only stay open for a few days per segment (for 40 odd pages). I actually feel this is a design problem at SHH. I mean, I love this place and enjoy the discussion here, don't get me wrong! But trying to shoehorn every speculative idea into one thread (especially with them in 40 page segments that get closed in a relatively short while) isn't a very good way to go about it.

I really hope not. Everyone would expect that he'll just get brought right back for the JL film. Fortunately Snyder is apparently drawing from many different elements from the comic book source material to tell his own original story, i.e., not directly translating any of them. But anyway, if I had to bet it would be that he will not be killed. But Doomsday can't really be killed, so I am looking forward to what they do with him to stop him. I'm expecting inter-dimensional multiverse portals in this cinematic universe, what with Wonder Woman's Greek Olympian pantheon and Aquaman's Atlantean magic-using civilization. So maybe they'll somehow send him to another dimension, i.e., somewhere in a parallel universe?

Possibly near death, yes. Snyder will know most will be expecting it and will be thinking will he or wont he?

Just speculating here, but after the scene we saw of the trinity standing together, I think supes will probably try and hold doomsday to one place while bats and wondy ( at supes urging ) take care of removing the civilians to safety. One or both may then stop lex or whatever else is going on.
Maybe all three start out fighting it but see its not gonna be easy, hence supes wanting the other two to remove the civilians.

Once they return to the fight, supes and doomsday have probably just about beaten each other to a pulp, Like a suit ripped, bone protrusions on doomsday broken, and blood dripping down and off the hands of both, pulp.

Wondy may then step in and finish off doomsday by removing his head. Maybe she tried that earlier but it didn't work, but now it would since DD is weakened. I don't know.

Supes prolly falls down to his knees and collapses. But I don't think he will actually die, but they may think he has for a couple minutes ( or hours? days?) as they kneel down by him..

Maybe it's at that point that supes has Batman's full respect as he gave all to protect the innocent.

of course we all know supes will be back before the end.

who's to say tho. It may play out totally different.

I could see a near death, playing with CBM fans' expectation about it from the source material, yeah.

and the statue wasn't built at the end of the movie to memorise his self-sacrifice. it should be already there in the beginning of the movie... as we see the false god paint on its chest in the trailer...

This is true. The statue was even defaced by anti-Superman protestors.

The other green screen photos were of mourners at a stadium. One of the extras said it was a memorial scene for someone important. The extras were told it was for the President. Cavill as Clark or Supes did not take part in that scene according to the extra.

I believe the Doomsday fight takes place there and the statue is destroyed during that fight.

I'm not ruling out a death of Superman story. There's too many hints of it being a real possibility.

Do I want it? Sure, why not. It would settle many of the issues on screen. (obviously the Zach and MoS haters won't care)

And the supes statue is incomplete because parts of it are cgi rendered

Only the head and arms were though.

First, not having Superman a founding JL member is too much of a break from what has been.

Second, Cavill is signed for JL1 so he will come back? But how? Will Snyder even devote much to that subplot? When there is a big bad like Darkside and introducing the new team members? The temptation would be to leve Supes off-screen in stasis for the first two acts and have him more or less just re-appear in the 3rd act.

We saw how Batman's role grew in bvS to more screen-time, likely that Superman. The temptation would be to squeeze back a dead Supes in JL1 screen-time wise.

Its not like it would be a real Return story with the imposte Supermen and all.

Here is what I think/hope happens:

During the the battle with Doomsday, Superman "dies." Batman, Wonder Woman, and maybe some of the other JL members take him to his Fortress of Solitude. Meanwhile, the public gathers of the statue leaving flowers, etc. Near the end of the movie, after having time to heal, he comes back.

I have no preference here, but just to point out one doesn't have to die for people to bring you flowers. He could be known to be badly injured but alive and healing, and since you can't pop by his hospital to give him the flowers, you leave them by his statue?

Or the flowers could be in rememberance of the Metropolis battle victims.

Lets not get carried away with a logical and reasonable theory:)
