I'd prefer someone show Singer the door, and boot his a$$ out along with the whack pack writing team of Harris and Daugherty.

Then, I'd like to see a serious reboot along the lines of a post-crisis Superman with both parents alive ala STAS, and have someone like Timm/Dini write the story. That way we'd be sure to have people from Superman's rogues gallery ala Mongul, Darkseid, Brainiac, Metallo, Parasite, and Luthor, rather than just Luthor.

Timm/Dini have a strong sense of creativity, and not the horrible storywriting skills that Harris/Daugherty have, or the overbearing arrogance, and blind fetishism to the Donner film that Singer has.
Hahahahaha!
I feel your pain.:D
Personally I don't care if Singer moves to Italy and makes Shoes for the rest of his life, as long as he stays away from Superman.
And shame on WB for greenlighting this movie which barely reflects any of the source material THEY own.

hey.....I just watched Batman Begins again, last night, and I finally got around to watching the behind-the-scenes, special features, and interviews.....

2 things really struck me.....and in part are why I think SR was less successful....

First, either Nolan or Goyer said that the most fundamental way for the audience to connect with the character(s) is to do an origin movie. They really focused on exploring Bruce's journey, from scared boy to bad a** beast, and they wanted the audience to really connect with Bruce ( and to an extent, his supporting cast ).

I felt that was one of the things missing in SR......we never really got a chance to CONNECT with the characters......whether it's Clark/Superman, Lois, Lex.....we never really got a chance to get to know them.......to understand their relationships and their underlying reasons or motivations.......

we were just kind of "thrown into" an already ongoing story......so there was really no "bond" between the characters......or between us and the characters......

The second thing I noticed is how much attention they paid to studying the rich ( comic book ) history of Batman......drawing their influences from various stories and periods of Batman's history........

Nolan didn't just limit his studies to the previous Batman films ( or just to the Burton films ).......he and Goyer actually looked at the comics......since Batman is, after all, a comic book character.

Again, much has been said that Singer didn't read any comics.....now whether or not that is entirely true.....it is obvious that Singer drew his inspiration heavily from the original Donner films. However, in doing so, he limited himself to just that aspect of Superman's history......But, just like Batman, Superman has a rich ( comic book ) history and mythos.......and there is so much in that history that could have been tapped and explored in a movie..........

That's why I feel Superman needed the Batman Begins treatment......after all, ALL of the current ( and future ) Superhero franchises have started as ORIGINS........to give the audience the chance to connect with the heros from the start......and share in their journeys...........Superman, sadly, was not given that chance......

batman begins had it's flaws but they were so minor that it didn't matter. it wasn't really accepted just b/c its an origin story, but more that it was something different. a batman story we hadn't seen before. superman returns rehashed the same lame story from a movie that is really dated. i loved the first superman, but you can't do the same thing now. singer made one of the most boring(yet visually stunning) superhero movies ever. how could he have made good x-men movies and completey take a s--- on superman?

So.....what are the chances, you guys think, of getting a new director with a new series?

I don't see it like that.

I see it 100% spilt. 50% chance Singer might come back and 50% a new director will come back with the same cast.

Exactly.
And the trailer for Superman Begins should end with Clark sitting in a resterant with with Lois and saying
"Well...a guy who dresses up in blue tights....seriously has issues"

ends quickly with title whoooshing towards the screen..

"S U P E R M A N B E G I N S"

a guy who dresses in up in blue tights AND wears read undies on the outside........clearly has issues........

I just hope that if Singer looks around these forums he see's just how mad people are, and how much they want him away from future superman movies, and he does just that!

Please Bryan go away, and leave Superman ALONE!

It should be started from scratch. Suit and all. I'm sure he's well aware of it Fanboy. Not just the forums on the internet, but the feedback in the magazines. Wal-Mart pulled the Returns mechandise off the shelves here. Whn=en the people saw how drabby looking the colors and the rest of the design of the suit they didn't buy them.

Take the BB similarities to ridiculous levels,

In a prison on Apocolpse..

Darseid-"Are you so desperate to fight alien criminals that you lock yourself in so you can take them on one at a time?"
Superman-"Actually...there were eh...700 of them"
Darseid-" I counted 600, Kal EL"
Superman-"How do you know my name?"
Darseid-"The universe is too small for the last Kryptonian to just disappear....no matter how deep he chooses to sink".
Superman-"Who are you?"
Darseid-"I am merely Darkseid.."

I just want to see if Singer can come through on the "Crazy scary sci-fi ****" with the next film like he said he will.

Whereas I didn't hate Superman Returns (I actually enjoyed it)... but I hate that they gave him a kid. Because now... who knows what direction they can take it in. Oh, the kid gets kidnapped and the real daddy is gonna go save him and it's revealed to Jason that Superman's his father.... is it gonna be that predictable? I did however like that we finally got a Lex that's absolutely bent on revenge (a changed man... no more cheesiness).

It didn't work very well, though... to pick up after 25 years had gone by since the second movie came out. So, unfortunately, I have to say re-boot.

I felt it was a horrible disappointment to introduce Jason as Superson. If they needed to introduce someone that Superman should mentor, or have superpowers, Kara would have definitely been a better choice. Instead, now we're stuck with a very dissapointing Jason for the sequels, and really nothing productive can come of this, and it really neutralizes any opportunity to bring Supergirl into the mix.

Singer, unfortunately will likely helm the sequel, although I have no idea why. The film seriously underperformed, and the fact that there is such a dissension among Superman fans, is indicative that WB and most notably Singer, really have no finger on the pulse of Superman. Singer brought us Singerman who is a soulless version of Superman and a throwback to the Donner era which should have remained in the past.

Singer's approach basically took a squat and a dump on what Superman has been in the Post-Crisis era, as well as the interpretations of the Timm/Dini version and the version of L&C, in lieu of Donner's version. This was most notable, especially the disrespect that the Timm/Dini version received in the Up, Up, and Away documentary Singer produced. Timm/Dini and the DCAU helped bring back the respect to Superman, and Singer took a dump on their efforts by trivializing and glossing over it in the documentary. What is sad, is that in his ego and arrogance know no bounds, and are only fueled even moreso, by his zombie yes men Harris and Daugherty, who share a brain, and have probably less talent than many people on this board.

What fans and general public has he spoken with?

Hmmm... I dont know. SR didnt really do much for me but nither did the first X-men movie but then SInger did X2 and that was way better then the first one. I think that SiInger could do that again. But jeez...Zod again... its like Singer's afraid to touch the other, more dangerous villians in the Superman universe.

A non related Donner Re-Boot for me. After witnessing Singer's use/definition for "vague history" a sequel would be messy.

Vague history my ass. Superman Returns was 100% the new Superman III

A complete sequel. I loved Superman Returns. However, instead of having Lex as the villain (AGAIN!), bring in a villain from the comics like Metallo, Brainiac, or even my favorite: Darkseid. If Singer decides to use Zod (AGAIN!), then have Superman kill him like he did in the comics. Introduce Supergirl in the film. Introduce other characters such as Mercy, Emil Hamilton, Pete Ross, Lana Lang, etc.

Personally, I want to just do a reboot.

Pretend Superman Returns never happened the same way Superman Returns pretended parts 3 and 4 never happened.

No kid. New Cast (mabye). New Director (definetely). New story (definetely again).

Sorry call me old fashioned or stuck in the past but STM is probably the best super hero flick ever made.

The only thing lacking is some of the flying sequences. Other than that its an almost PERFECT movie.

Superman doesn't need to reboot, Superman needs more Supervillians & I think Lois needs some competion herself as in another woman & no NOT Lana Lang.

Yes, he DOES need a reboot. S:TM is the best comic book movie ever made, yes. But to say "Well, that was perfect so we shouldn't even ATTEMPT something new" lead exactly to what we ended up getting: A weak retread.

No one is going to forget S:TM if they do decide to do a reboot.
