It looks like she's only sticking around for half a series, though. I wonder if she'll get to meet the next companion and tag him/her in. I always liked when Classic Who did that (Barbara & Ian meeting Steven, Romana getting 2 stories with Adric before leaving, Mel actually telling the Doctor to take Ace with him). It feels like the companion is passing the torch instead of getting replaced. I was hoping that was what Moffat had planned for Oswin when she popped up in "Asylum of the Daleks," but...

That's a good idea, and I'd like to see that this time. The "clean break" between companions in the modern series after a while has become a bit contrived, so this would be a cool way of re-introducing the more organic transitions from the old series. Also helps cut down on the fanwanking demands for "big event" crossovers where characters from different series either meet up or magically appear in the same hour of television.

If Jenna is sticking around for 9A, they need to introduce the next companion in that first half, as they did with Jenna.

Though, make sure to have the new companion be a, more or less, full time presence in that time to ease the transition.

Agreed, not necessarily full time, but with enough exposure to merit a more natural transition.

I don't really count Asylum of the Daleks as a companion transition, as A) that wasn't really Clara, B) they never met face to face, and C) it was a one-episode interaction with no continuity to the next one.

All 707 Classic Series episodes - played at once...
