Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread

I take it Nottingham is fairly bleak in real life.

They have a really good cricket ground...

Nottingham was the gun crime capital of the UK a few years ago with a bunch of drive by shootings and gang wars.

On the plus side Wollaton Hall which served as the Wayne Mansion in Nolan's Batman films is located in Nottingham.

It always makes me laugh that the space suits in Alien were made out of Cricket pads.

Yeah, if you play or follow cricket, that is something that you cannot unsee.

So I'm listening to the "Worlds of Doctor Who" box set, which is basically just Big Finish linking some of their spin-off shows into a string of linked stories.

The first story starts off in the 1890's as an episode of Jago & Litefoot (the theatre owner and pathologist that helped the Doctor and Leela in "The Talons of Weng-Chiang"-- Big Finish is like 7 seasons into their spin-off). It was a really good one, and the episode was surprisingly standalone. It all seems to conclude nice and tidy in the end, with one lingering plot thread that leaves the door open for the second story in the box set...

The second story is an episode of Counter-Measures. This spin-off is about the scientists and military personnel that helped the Doctor and Ace in "Remembrance of the Daleks." Big Finish is about 3 seasons into their show about slightly more grounded pre-UNIT sci-fi investigations. Again, like the first story in the box set, it's a good example of an episode of that particular audio series, and it feels pretty standalone. It picks up on elements from Jago & Litefoot's adventure without making it required listening.

I'm just about to start the third episode in the set, which apparently takes place in the present day and follows Cap. Mike Yates alongside two American UNIT soldiers who were introduced in the Companion Chronicles: Cap. Ruth Matheson and Warrant Officer Charlie Saito. Ruth and Charlie are voiced by the two actors who played Grace and Chang in the 1996 TV movie. Big Finish doesn't wanna fork over the money to NBC/Universal to use those characters, so they made up two original UNIT characters for the actors to play. Ruth and Charlie are the two night guards of UNIT's "Museum of Terrors" (the Black Archive from "The Day of the Doctor").

I haven't listened to it yet, but the final story is supposed to feature the 2nd Romana, Leela, and the Sixth Doctor. Looking forward to that one.

I just finished an audio with Ruth and Charlie called 'Mastermind', which had them visiting the Master when he was a prisoner of UNIT before he escaped custody... chilling ending...

Their episode of this box set starts off with [blackout]Ruth and Charlie still in custody after letting him escape[/blackout].

I loved "Mastermind," though. Beevers probably plays the creepiest Master.

Hmmm, we had the eyeball blouse two weeks ago, let's put this beautiful woman in an equally hideous skirt pattern this week!

She looks like she made a skirt out of her grandmother's old curtains from the 1970's.

Trust me, if you were a young woman whose only friend is a 2000-year-old Scotsman, you'd have terrible fashion sense too.

Hey, that's not necessarily tru--

Are-- are you speaking from personal experience here, Pink?

after watching the latest doctor who, i would be onboard for a weekly teamup where robin and the doctor continuously argue and get into misadventures

also dat Malcolm Tucker face when robin cut his button off

What are trying to tell us, Pinky?

Well, he said he was a 2000-year-old time traveller and invited me inside his mysterious box to go on a magical journey ... I don't remember what happened next, but somehow I woke up handcuffed to a pipe on the set of X2: X-Men United.

Seriously she looked so out of date. You could argue she looked like a classic WHO companion

It looked like something a mom would wear

With Mom jeans too!

Clearly, now that the Doctor's an older man now, she's stopped trying.

it's too bad that now that Clara's characterization has improved since last year, her fashion sense hasn't followed suit... exception being Robot of Sherwood...
