Press Release:
Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will be the first of a series of Doctor Who console games developed by BBC Worldwide Digital Entertainment and Games marking a significant movement into gaming for this business. Two further Doctor Who console game titles are planned to follow this release with details to be announced next year. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock is being created in full high definition for digital download platforms and is set for release in early 2012, initially on Playstation 3 ®; Playstation Vita ® and PC platforms.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock will immerse gamers in the universe of Doctor Who, allowing them to take on the role of the Doctor and River Song as they travel across time and space to save the Earth. Gamers must learn to master the complexities of time travel with exceptional time based game play, changes made in one time will impact another creating multiple possibilities and challenging players to solve puzzles across the centuries.

A wholly new storyline has been developed especially for this new Doctor Who console game franchise, written in collaboration with the BBC Wales team. Photo-real graphics, television quality scenes and highly realistic characters will bring the world of Doctor Who to life immersing fans completely in the twists and turns of an action filled plot. The stars of the series Matt Smith (the Doctor) and Alex Kingston (River Song) have recorded full voiceovers for their characters in Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock and motion capture has been used to create in-game characters that are incredibly realistic providing the ultimate Doctor Who gaming experience.

The game is being developed by Supermassive Games (www.supermassivegames.com), experienced Playstation and PC developers based in the UK who were a Develop Excellence Awards New Studio Finalist in 2011.

Robert Nashak, EVP of Digital Entertainment at BBC Worldwide said: “We’re creating these new games for Playstation 3 and Vita with adaptations that will bring the wonder, adventure and madness of Doctor Who to each platform. Working with a top-tier UK development partner like Supermassive Games demonstrates BBC Worldwide’s commitment to create world-class Doctor Who games for fans of the show and gamers alike."

Ooohhh, this sounds amazing. Hope we get to see some footage soon to decide if it's worthy of consideration.

I'm guessing the Doctor sections will be more stealth or puzzle based and River's sections will be the run and gun sections.

Remember playing the free game something like a year back now. Karen Gillan and Matt Smith are pretty terrible voice actors when it comes to video games. This is one of the cases were the game would be better if someone else other than themselfs, done themselfs. Because they can't do themselfs very well.

I haven't play one of the DW: The Adventure Games but one of the complaints I've heard is that it's half-decent, the puzzles are very simple and that you basically just press the buttons to advance the plot. As I mentioned earlier I haven't play the games yet, but this is a common weak points that I usually see.

Anyway, I'm really excited to see a video game of Doctor Who receiving the proper treatment it derserves, since I think the franchise is ideal for an interactive experience.

It is weird that it's coming out on PC but not 360.

I'm calling what Speedball called. Doctor's sections will be more stealth based. River's will be run and gun, shoot everything in sight.

Hope this is good. One of the problems I feel with Matt's voice in The Adventure Games was that the models for The Doctor and Amy were pretty terrible and stiff.

I'll give it a go. I'm still sort of hoping for a Lego Doctor Who sort of game though, mainly so that I can change Doctors to one I like.

But this could be fun. I hope they take it seriously like Arkham City rather than just getting it out there like Spiderman: Edge of time.

Yeah. I'd love for this to be an Arkham style quality game but I'm so not getting my hopes up.

Arkham style quality? So the Doctor would just run around and talk a lot, lol.

I already know I'm buying this, so I hope it isn't to terrible.

Quite an odd chosen of platforms is releasing to, since PC is included I wonder why 360 isn't there either but it isn't such a big deal. I hope the developers could churn out something good, there's many ways of doing a game based on the series so it all really depending on the gameplay and the overall quality of the game.

I just hope it doesn't look like something that should have been a mobile app which they adapted into a console game to make a bigger profit.

The doctor who games were specifically created for kids in school.
We are talking 7-12 year olds. Given it's a family show, alot of children are fans so it would be abit unfair to make the difficulty to high or over-complex.

I'm very much aware of it. I'm just saying it's one of the usual complaints I see regarding the game. I really hope that this is the triple-A Doctor Who video game we've been waiting for, since the past games hasn't been particularly impressive.

Anyway, for those of you who are wondering why this game isn't on Xbox 360 is because the game developer (although an independent one) specialises in PlayStation games. The following quote is from their site:
Founded in 2008, we are an independent games developer based in Guildford in the south east of England, working on PlayStation-exclusive titles.

Watched no episode of it
I may get the game if it isn't like Heavy Rain and Back to the Future, games with point and move aren't interesting in gameplay imo

Never thought I'd hear of a thing like this

That's where I stand

Actually I don't mind the visual style of the game. It kind of fits Doctor Who.

Also I wouldn't probably buy this game if you weren't a fan of the show. It just don't seem like it's gonna be accessible to anyone but the fans considering River is the secondary playable character.

Or he should just watch the show?
And the Character model for the Doctor looks pretty good, IMO.

If I enjoy them game I may start watching the show

The Silence look tremendous.

Pfffft, who needs textures in the Tardis?

I concur with what Speedball said. I don't think you should determine whether or not to watch the TV-series based on the video game.

Gameplay Trailer: [YT]cE0QV8HpEZ0[/YT]

Wasn't expecting much from this (as it's a digital download game), but I think a 2D platformer is a great idea to go with. As it appears at the end of the trailer, the game will release in March.

I noticed they used the little ''Tick Tock" from Series 6. Wonder if it ties into series 6.
