Neither have given their "official" reviews yet.

Based on prior comments made however, Roeper appears to have enjoyed the film very much. Expect a resounding thumbs-up from him.

Ebert, on the other hand... I'm not so sure...

^ Friday's ST's as scanned by SuperKal from BT's. And no, that's NOT a photoshopped image.

I find it telling that a Superman Returns review hasn't gone up from Ebert and Roeper yet. When you think about it Spider-man 2 and Batman Begins were both reviewed in advance and given 2 thumbs way up and both reviews were put out very early before either movie was released to build buzz.

You would think a huge movie like Superman Returns would get the same treatment from Ebert and Roeper (that is if it got a big  from both critics).

I have it for 10:30 PM tomorrow

A week from release is still really early for a review - plus it's getting released at an awkward point in the week. Normally if it were coming out on a Friday you'd get a review on Thursday or Friday.
Released on a Tuesday? Whatta they gonna do? Review it on the Sunday or Monday? Interrupt regularly scheduled programming to bring Ebert and Roeper's Special Review?

I don't know. Ebert and Roeper's review for Batman Begins was out 2 weeks in advance before the movie came out. Spider-man 2's review was released so early Sony worked Ebert's quote "may be the best superhero film ever" into some of their TV spots before the film came out. I just find it odd that SR is not getting the same treatment.

I dunno - I don't keep track of when reviews of movies came out from 2 or 3 years ago.
I just know Eberts syndicated column appears in my local paper usually the same day as the premiere, and I usually only see reviews on his website a day or two before release, which means they've probably already been printed in his paper a day or two before that.

I think ebert gave it one thumb up and one thumb down. Not sure though.

Uh, I think he only does the thumbs up, thumbs down thing with one hand.

O I didn't know that I thought he did this  :down

Lets not read too much into this guys. Back in 2002, the pair gave their Attack of the Clones review extra early and Ebert gave it a thumbs down while Roeper gave it a big thumbs up.

I dont think the earliness of the review or lateness of it has any baring to which way they are going to lean.

Although critics generally get SUPER-PIST if a studio refuses to provide an advance screening. It's usually perceived as a lack of confidence in the product and they'll rip a film for it. Example: Duece Bigalow, European Gigolo.

according to TV listings, the review for SR will be on the july 2nd show...this weekends reviews are headlined by "click"

what this one minute review thats supposely in the paper already because on the website its not there in the one minute review section

One minute reviews aren't written by Ebert, they're basically the synopsis the studio releases.

Dunno what to tell you. This is what his website sez:

Superman Returns

Warner Bros. summary:

Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, "Coming Soon" blurbs are informational only, written about films that have not yet been screened. Roger Ebert's actual review will not appear until the day of release.

that i have seen and i found that newspaper article on imdb

Heres the cold hard truth ladies and gentlemen:

Ebert claimed to have disliked it because it wasnt enough like the original 70s/80s films, not campy enough...

Would you honestly have wanted this movie to be more campy and less on the dark/serious side... ?

I think we should be glad we didnt get the kind of movie Ebert wanted, so really I dont mind him not being happy with the product and claiming the film was too dark for what he expected.

I also think he expected Brandon to do straight up slapstick comic relief for Clark Kent like Reeve did, I'm also glad we didnt get that.

I predicted awhile ago they would split on this. Its really no suprise, the only movies they seem to agree on are artsy ones.

Ultimately, regardless of what Ebert, Roeper, any of you, or even Jesus Christ Himself thinks, I'll judge it for myself.
The parts of Eberts film reviews I enjoy are those dealing with aspects of film that aren't so much a matter of taste, but rather components of film making itself. Cinematography, composition, whatever else.
