Just went to see the doctor and it turns out there's a posibility I might have type 2 diabetes on account of my excessive soda habit.:csad: (They found something called ketones in my "sample")

Does anyone here have it and if so can you give me an idea of how this is likely to impact on my life if it turns out I do (I have to go back for a blood test tomorrow and won't get my results till next week :csad: :csad: )

I think diabetes is the one where you have to control your blood level with insulin shots?

It can be bad, yes, and is common in alot of older people but I am not doctor.

Seriously, good luck.

Thanks,

The doctor said if I've got it it's more likely to be type 2 which means no insulin but I'll have to cut all sugar out of my diet so no more coke :csad:

of course if it's a choice between drinking coke and losing my feet I know which i'd choose...

My biggest worry is how this is going to effect my beer consumption :csad: :csad: :csad: :csad: :csad:

Any condition that is self inflicted usually means it is the lesser kind, Im guessing type2 diabetes caused by excessive sugar consumption will be the mild type.
You will prob still have to take pills for the rest of your life tho if you have it.

This man knows how you feel:

Type 2 Diabetes usually has no symptoms, but in the long term it can lead to excessive thirst, frequent trips to the toilet to pass urine and weight loss.
This type of diabetes can usually be controlled with diet, exercise or medicines, but if poorly controlled, it increases the risk of heart disease and strokes, nerve damage and blindness.

Did you not ask your Dr all of this stuff?

I've lost half a stone in 2 weeks and i'm pissing like a racehorse...

I didn't spend too long discussing the details since I've not been diagnosed yet, I'm waiting for the test and results first...

And pick it up with your feet?

When I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes. I was given a choice, I could either control it by diet or they could provide pills. I went on their diet... and it wasn't easy. I had to give up a lot of the things I like to eat and only eat small portions of others. (Half a sandwhich for breakfast, only 1/2 a cob of corn with lunch or dinner, as much meat and nuts as I wanted, absolutely no sugar).

I suggest that if you like soda you switch to a "sugar free" brand.

That depends on how well you are willing to take care of yourself. My mom has diabetes and it hasn't debilitated her hardly at all, because she does all the right things.

Her sister also has it, but hasn't been willing to take care of her self and now she, despite being 5 years younger, bleeds from the eyes and her kidneys are shutting down and she'll likely be dead within 4 years or so.

My Grandma went blind from diabetes. She passed away a few monhs ago.

I'd love to give Diabetes a good ass whoopin'!!!

Drink more soda and you'll be able to take it on personally.

Or find everyone with Diabetes and kick their ass. I think...?

Be glad that you dont have type 1 diabetes. Type 2 can easily be controlled by a healthy diet and exercise. The exercise will be really important for you if you have any type of diabetes; most people i know who have it are older now but are losing the feeling in their fingers and feet which they try to fight with about an hours walk every morning to get their blood pumping fully.

get off the computer and go for a run :)
