Does anyone like the idea of Hulk getting bigger with anger?

there was a big section of the film as to how trauma can be manifested physically activating the nanomeds that causes him to change in the first place...

Betty suspects this and openly airs it.

it's a fairly legit piece of reasoning to suspect it also can help increase his size and therefore strength.

The nanos are triggered by Banner's emotions, 'cause his emotions are interpretated like a physical damage(in Psychosomatical way).

Nope...never been a part of the character in the comics, so why place it in the movie. A simple line of dialogue....."he seems to be getting stronger as he get's angrier" would suffice. Growing Hulk = The Suck....
I personally didnt mind the growing hulk to a certain extent. I think they could of toned it down some, but thought it was okay. I think they could of made him even smaller to start and when he did get angry his 'growing hulk' wouldnt of been so unnaturally huge lookin. Just gotta remember this is theatres not the comics, I don't think putting a line stating he gets bigger as he gets angry would of done it. Visuals are sometimes far more telling than just one line of dialogue.
I think what played to him looking kindof bad at being huge was the 'brightish green skin tone' might of worked better if they toned that down as well. CGI for hulk wasn't very well done,it was detailed, but it wasn't that good overall.

No, just have Hulk roaring louder, something with his eyes, veins popping, defining muscles better will show Hulk getting stronger due to his anger.

Sorta like in Ang's Hulk, when we saw Hulk for the first time, he had trouble lifting the gamma bomb then you heard a loud roar and he was able to lift it then throw it.

EDIT: Abomination is meant to be bigger than the Hulk, a tough opponent for Hulk. If Hulk just gets angry, grows and becomes like 15-20ft, it wouldn't make Abomination look a like a big threat anymore but if Hulk remained the same size then it would look cool!

Hulk was no stronger with his first attempt at lifting the spherical gamma device (not bomb) than when he finally placed it on his shoulders.

again, it was a grip thing

Actually no. It was a poor attempt to show Hulk as Atlas, a greek Titan in mythology.

I know who atlas is.

But that stance had nothing to do with lifting the sphere, rather balancing it.

But he specifically has trouble so he can balance it on his back like Atlas. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, just that his strength was manipulated to show that pose. I remember hearing Lee specifically mention the Atlas pose.

It was just one more artistic licence Lee took to make the film an Ang Lee film instead of a Hulk film.

Well, I suppose if they hired Ang Lee in the first Place, was to have a Ang Lee Take on Hulk....

You want to have your own Hulk no matter who is the director... than you hire a "Yes Man" not someone like Ang who is a respected Director with a "certain freedom"

Guess what. I actually liked the film. That's not the point. It's not Hulk. It's not the film Universal wanted, it's not the film the fans wanted. Lee had no idea who the character was and didn't care either.

I was never a fan of the Hulk so I didn't care. I liked the film when it came out. Sans the ending.

I like the idea of him getting bigger, as a visual way to show him getting "stronger".

However, there was one flaw in the way this was presented in the 2003 movie--he never got smaller. He grew bigger on one transformation, then even bigger on the next...it seemed like there was no limit. IMO, Hulk should have a standard height of about 9 feet. Hulk's size increases should then be temporary and as soon as he starts to calm down a little, he should go back to his standard height.

nope, Ang f**ked up on that one

Sava, you've come such a long way my brother. I couldn't have said it better myself. Anyone who thinks that he needs to grow in order to show that he's geting stronger, please.......................The Hulk is one of the most recognized comic characters in the world. I don’t think anyone needs to be told that he gets stronger as he gets madder. I think this is about as well known as not putting ketchup on a hotdog. And to anyone who thinks “He needs to get bigger or needs to be that big.” All I can say to that is “please go away” you’re giving me a headache. :oldrazz:

I agree with everything you wrote except the ketchup on a hotdog. :oldrazz:

Seriously loved the ang lee Hulk, but if it's a comic hulk you want it can't be too hard to show an increase in anger = increase in strength.

Show him fail at lifting something, or getting knocked down. He pauses, shakes his head, grits his teeth. Zoom to his eyes, getting more bestial/angry
Zoom out to show his physique becoming more ripped (to an almost grotesque level).

Have him throw out a louder and even more 'angry' roar than before, and...

Have him beat the crap out of whatever.

Really, if you don't pick up that more anger = more strength, then you should go have a lie down and let the nurse wipe your drool away :whatever:

I think they should play up the fact that the Hulk's veins are like steel cables, when he gets mad have them really bulge out like a wrestler in a fit of roid rage.

that sounds good......at the same time having him flex and roar just before he attacks

Personally I think the veined-up Hulk looks ridiculous.

Hulk is never the same size in the comic books
Therefore Ang Lee did an acceptable job in this area.

I don't know so much of the idea of getting bigger, as much as I would say more defined, where you can tell he is putting on muscle without making him extremly huge, I mean for example when he first changes he would be the hulk but he would not be well defined and the angrier he gets the more defined he gets the more obvious the muscles become.

Uh... actually he is only one size. Now whether different artists draw him in a way he looks bigger or whatever, he was always 9 feet. Also even if his size varies in different comics, he never GREW.

You're right and wrong. Bad art is to blame for the size difference. He was/is only only size, 7 feet tall. He'll be 9 feet in TIH.

um, the gritty face and busting biceps and growling war cry was shown in spidey 2 when parker was stopping the train.

In this case it was used to show strain and difficulty in achieving a mammoth task.

you can't simply assume using the same technique with another character will ultimately provide a different meaning automatically...

Saying this though, the more defined body generally means a less strong one.

This is based on a body builder's physique actually being at its weakest during a competition as he's starved his/her body of nutrients.

Also the thing with the hulk is that he starts out being misproportioned anywho so by adding more bulk to him in one dimension and not in the others, i'm not sure how this will translate on film, they certainly haven't done anything like this in the comics because the character will stop looking right and unbalanced.

Oh really? Man, I always thought it was 9 even before TIH... boy do I feel stupid right now. :oldrazz:

But hey, at least I got one out of two!
