The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The one, the only SPIDEY Costume thread!

Ugh, Spidey's back is too fat and short for my tastes in the old series. Garfield is so right for this role in contrast to Toby by a mile.

Yeah, while I was a fan of the Raimi suit back in the day, I'm way partial to both the Webb suits now when they're seen side by side.

And further back in the thread the question was posed about having Spidey's eyes be expressive and animated... nothing would stomp my enthusiasm and respect for the films than if that were to happen. Shudder.

This movie has not aged well. I feel old looking at this.

I liked both suits, but the second is nearly perfect.
Specially the eyes. I love the big eyes. I just miss the round spider in the back.

Remember a discussion regarding the back of the new costume. Someone was saying that the part where the red meets on the back of the costume (above the spider) is shaped like a "M".

Saw this in the new int trailer. It's still straight after all.

I checked stills/set photos of the back of TASM 2 costume and it looks you're right, it looks straight/exactly like the back of TASM 1 costume instead of an M shape like other set photos/clips make it out to be. But then again it's probably due to the movie using different costume for different takes or similar reasoning.

I do wish the costume had relatively brighter colors similar to the first ASM suit but it looks fairly brighter in motion/the trailers.

I'm glad they went with a thinner spider for the two ASM movies though

The original TASM suit was okay in motion, but standalone / not in motion it was an eyesore.

TASM2 suit is the best Spider-Man has ever looked on film.

that green screen sucks btw or what ever it was done with. everything else looked superb but that shot is just embarrassingly bad

Yup. The first time I watched the trailer, this particular scene looked.. bad. I believe it's because the CGI isn't done, obviously. The "weight" of Spider-Man is not quite there yet and the motion+colours are off. We will definitely get a better quality during April/May.

After all these movies, unless they choose umm Superman returns colors, the color red and blues they use for the actual suits are fine. This gives them far more control on set with lighting and post. They will never use the blue and red of the comics because COMICS CAN CHEAT!

They can cheat lighting so that red and blue are much brighter then they should be in say a tunnel and maintain the same shade when the heroes is out and about on a great sunny day. Also unless they go for Alex Ross detail, must colorist aren't using a wide range of shading when in reality you would get 10 or 20 shade of blue and red because the human body curves and scrunches up.

The first suit had a lot of things going against it production wise that I think they realized Raimi didn't have to deal with. One is the crotch. The other is the muscle shading. They didn't need to go as deep on it as they did with the first suit. My guess is raised webbing is better for lighting and also it sorta fills out Garfield. He was like a salamander in the first film and now he's got some texture to him.

Now there are things I wish they had kept because it was really working for the suit. The hands and forearm were awesome on the other suit. It just flowed with the movement. I would have love to see it incorporated into the belt and legs. Though I have a feeling that it wouldn't have worked with the big white eyes(would have with the old eyes).

Also don't over analyze that trailer frame. It's a low definition frame while in movement.

I think the spider tick in the comics would work in live action but it doesn't make sense. It looks like tick, it doesn't look like a Spider. It's strange that Spider-man has this expressive Spider on the front and a circular tick on the back. If the front Spider was rounder then yeah but it's not so it doesn't make since.

Now I'm a fan of muscular Spider. If he's a freshmen then I'll accept the Garfield physique. But Senior, College, Working adult...........nope the guy is lifting cars and stuff. He needs a serious gymnast body. This is not because of the Spider bite but because he engages in some hardcore exercise everytime he puts on the suit. He is not going to be lanky.

Now back to the new suit. I think it all works though because he doesn't look like a guy who could kick your ass.

it's a shame that the two main stunt guys, choi and spencer, fill out the costume better than andrew does. it's probably a matter of opinion, but to me the stuntmen look more toned in the suit, especially the legs.

i hope andrew kicks it up a notch for tasm3 and/or they add some subtle changes to the tasm2 suit to enhance musculature. don't want or need him to be huge, but something more like ultimate spider-man comic or TSSM, where you can really tell that there's a very muscley, albeit lean, person under the costume, would be most welcome.

It makes sense that two guys whose job it is to be reliably physical for the work they do, would be better built and toned than an actor.

Damn, I lost a long worded post!

While we're talking about physique, I'm quite preoccupied with the physical changes experienced by Parker in this series, maybe because most sci-fi movies in the last 15 years or so insist on explaining everything rather than implying them. In Raimi's Spiderman we had a literal overnight change in physique, so the audience knew it was a consequence of the bite. In the Ultimate comics, Parker suddenly gains biceps several days after his bite. In TASM, Parker is already athletic (skateboarding) but as soon as he dons the suit, he looks considerably buff. His metabolism is shown to have accelerated too, in the scene where he stacks frozen food for example.

Are we to assume that the bite increased his muscle size, or does the movie imply that it increases over time thanks to his accelerated metabolism and the exercise inherent in his new identity?

Why did they change the look of his costume in the last film? What was the official reason?

I want to see the underarm webs! I want to see them! Honor Ditko!

It's actually pretty shoddy in my opinion. They really missed the mark.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this costume is The best CBM costume thus far, of all superhero movies

Because reboot.

yeah that is pretty much it. But I like how Mark Webb and the crew thought process(tried to give it a homemade look/feel like a teenager made it such as the sunglasses for Spidey's eyepieces and sneakers as parts of Spider-Man's boots, wristwatches as part of the web shooters, etc) and that was a better costume in motion that we saw in the final designs for the costumes rather than the design that was used in the merchandise and early set pictures, etc.

But I do agree that TASM 2 is the one of best/most faithful CBM superhero costumes yet and I appreciate a lot of the thought process behind the new design.

to Morbius: I think it's a little bit of both. The bite does increases muscle size as well as his newly increased accelerated metabolism. But honestly science is not one of my strong suits and this is one of the first time I ever really thought about this question.

The eyes are too big, but otherwise I'm glad they got back to Spidey's classic look.

I think the eyes are the best part. The big bug eyes are more fun.
