When you're a kid or a teenager, sometimes, being cool and liked by certain people comes into you're mind. But it seems to me, that when you become an adult it doesn't really matter anymore.

It doesnt matter to me now either.

Homer: So, I realized that being with my family is more important than being cool.
Bart: (unimpressed) Dad, what you just said was powerfully uncool.
Homer: You know what the song says: "It's hip to be square".
Lisa: That song is so lame.
Homer: So lame that it's... cool?
Bart and Lisa: (dismissive) No.
Marge: Am I cool, kids?
Bart and Lisa: (dismissive) No.
Marge: Good. I'm glad. And that's what makes me cool, not caring, right?
Bart and Lisa: (dismissive) No.
Marge: (frustrated) Well, how the hell do you be cool? I feel like we've tried everything here.
Homer: Wait, Marge. Maybe if you're truly cool, you don't need to be told you're cool.
Bart: (puzzled, uncertain) Well, sure you do.
Lisa: (bewildered) How else would you know?

It shouldn't, but I know plenty of grown people that still cave in to the peer pressure, feel a need to be with it and accepted by others. Basically the high school mentality never goes away, it just becomes more pricey.

Or even worse, it evolves into frat boy mentality which is infinitely more damaging.

as an adult (technically) it is important to still be cool. Of course in my line of work.. my money depends on my coolness... and then my coolness gives me access to lots of free things.

If it wasn't still important to be cool, plastic surgery and trophy wives wouldn't exist.

"Did he just say rings are cool?"

"No he said they sucked..."

"Cool!"

It's like a neverending cycle isn't it?

You can swap 'being cool' with 'gaining respect' or something similar for older people but there are very few people of any age that truly don't care what others think of them to any degree.

then in college, I didn't give a **** anymore and it all came together.

It's never really matter to me.

Being cool means being a jerk first.

If I wanted to be "cool" in high school I wouldnt walk the halls with a comic book in my hand all the time and Star Wars t-shirt, go figure though, I was considered "popular" by other people.

You don't need to be a jerk to be popular.

if you're adult and you still have to be cool just to be liked and respected by others, then you got a HUGE problem

when being adult, coolness means be true to yourself, know your roots, know what you speak and speak what you know. stop being a clown. works for myself pretty good

As with everything....it's important to some and not to others.

There are just as many adults that are terrified of the thought that they may not be in with "The Cool Crowd" as there are teenagers who feel this way.

I think everyone at any age wants to be thought of as being cool .Maybe it isn't worded the same or even thought of as the same but we all want to be held up high in others eyes.

If you have a job, you're basically either with the cool crowd or you're not, depending on the amount of employees and the cliques that form. You can't escape it.

Nah, read Catcher in the Rye.
When youre an adult cool doesnt even apply.

Adults that think they are cool always end up being the most embarrassing parents.

wow, of course it matter, heck it matters even more since the majority of childhood traits are usually magnified in adulthood.
