If Cyke ever comes back, does he need recasting? Since James Marsden is involved with the Superman franchise now, he may not be able to come back anyway.

Who would you suggest as an alternative actor for the role?

It needs to be someone with presence, who could be a strong leader....

Hopefully Wolverine will be out of the way, off in Japan or something on an adventure with Jubilee (second Wolverine movie perhaps!?).

Marsden would be nice... but then you would have to bring back Ashmore and Paquin and Page and Cudmore and if you have Storm and Wolverine back.... ya you need them too... too much money there... recast everyone.... X4 2015ish

He needs a real X-Men writer and not a Fox-owned peon with a hardone for Wolverine.

They all do. They also need a director who has an open mind and can relate to them all, not the ones he sees himself in.

Hmm..cyclops..He shouldn't be because Jimmy is a great and he makes a good cyclops. The end. :p

Marsden should never be replaced. He looks exactly like Cyclops, has presence, and can act on top of that. His role in Superman might get smaller when Singer enters the realm of Doomsday, Metallo, and Darkseid.

So I say keep Marsden on as Cyclops for future X-Men sequels.

A fellow "Fox has a hardon for Wolvie" believer. Cheers. :D

It sure annoys, doesn't it? And christ, do they really think they're fooling anyone???

As for the original post.

Wow. Tough one.

Marsden looks the part it's not even funny. As for presence and acting, he did more than just fine with the little he was given throughout the movies.

I stopped bothering with most tv shows and movies over the past two years. Can't really think of anyone who looks the part and has the right age right now. Will get back to you on that.

I haven't been on these boards in a while....

LOL So it doesn't sound to repetative but....

NO RECASTING... I WANT MARSDEN!

Personally I am never too keen on recasts, (for only one character in a sequel, anyway. if they wanna start a new story with a totally new cast, thats fine) they kinda already wrote (killed) him out of the story, but, if he had to return in the next movie, I’d say keep Marsden (though, to be honest he never really thrilled me in the role, it could of just been the writing, or the whatever)

I will say, if the did a recast (not saying I’d want one) I could see Justin Bruening working as a younger, semi unknown replacement for him. he kinda reminds me of him

or maybe, just if they ever did like a young x-men, year one, beginning of the x-men kinda store, where they recast everyone younger

Marsden rocks and I'd love to see him play Cyke again.

If a recast is unavoidable, I'd go with Barry Pepper.

I'm no Photoshop whiz, and I'm not gonna draw the visor over his eyes in Paint, but I think he'd make a cool Cyclops.

I don't think recasting Cylcops will be a big deal b/c...
1. He was hardly in X3.
2. He always has his eyes covered with sunglasses or visors.

I would rather have Jim Caviezel as Cyke but, that may not happen.

Honestly, I love Marsden for Cyclops, but if I was in charge, I'd dump everyone and recast only using unknowns or up and coming stars. I'd maybe give the X-Men cast cameos.

I would love for Marsden to be recast with someone who isn't such a pretty-boy and has some real charisma to show Scott's leadership abilities.

James Caviezel would be fine.

I don't think that's 100% fair. Marsden didn't get very many chances to show off Cyke's leadership in the first place.

Blame the scripts, not James Marsden.

I really don't like recast's because it will make the X-men franchise be like the Batman & Robin movies. But If they will recast then why not reboot the entire X-men franchise? so they can pick a new Cyclops and a little but muscle man and hairy like Wolverine etc.

Marsden might say no. It is a possibility. But I like the way Jason Ritter looks. Sure he's alot younger than James, but it shouldn't really be that big of a deal, right?

Yea, it's John Ritter's son.

Can he act? If not, then no. Someone with the ability to act needs to be Cyclops. James Marsden(If he accepts) should be the one and only to play Cyclops as he has the look, the presence, and he can act on top of that.

The rights need to be bought from Fox before any plans of a sequel or a restart happens.

I don't think they'll bring Cyclops back. If they do, I doubt that they'll need recasting.

The best thing about X3 was Marsden. Need I say more? But I think he'll rather stick with Singer than Rothman. And they're not bringing him back.

I think Marsden was a bigger problem than the script.

He's too much of the pretty-boy type - the high school quarterback type who you love to hate because his good looks get him everything. Logan was played against that.

Marsden was too young to be the natural choice for the leader. He seemed so much younger than Jean and Ororo. He'd be okay if they were doing X-Men First Class: The Movie, but not for playing Scott as the field leader of the X-Men.

Had a James Caviezel type been cast, rather than Marsden, Cyclops would have come off as a completely different character and been far more credible as the leader.

The problem with Marsden is he's the pretty-boy you love to hate. You can see why he's in charge, so you root for Logan. Scott's a boy scout, not the high school jock who always gets the girl.

Yeah he's a good enough actor. He played the cripple son in that Joan of Arcadia tv show a few years back. That's also a bad pic of him. He can fill the role.

Damn they look similar. I thought that first pic was Marsden. He'll work if he can act, but I must ask why get a similar looking actor if you wanna recast JM?? I doubt JM will be that busy with the Superman sequel. He needs to stay, and to be more to the point I blame Singer for Cyke's poor treatment.
