Does Danny Elfman still have it?

Yea Danny still got it...same as John Williams still got it.

Did he ever loose it? I really like his work.

his Hulk score is awesome.

I think he does good work still when he wants to. Some of it sounds similar, but the man has been doing it for a while. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's opening theme is the one that stands out as far as being unique as of late.

That music is truely brilliant IMO, as are the songs in the movie.

John Williams and Danny don't still got it.
Well, depending on your definition of "it".

If I ask my non-movie freak friends to hum 3 themes each by JW and DE, as a RULE, they will not include any of their recent work.
That to me was what they had, insane ability to dream up themes so iconic that they just become part of your brain forever.
They don't got it anymore.:down

Or they recalling themes from their childhood? Movie themes have more impact on a young mind, well, more of a lasting memory the calls up the emotions you expirecened the first time you heard the music with the images on film. This can also be true into adulthood...but its more common with children. Jurassic Park did it for me, and of course Star Wars and Batman Returns. But, as a avid listener of film scores Williams and Elfman still have it. They are contiually growing as artists instead of retreading what they have already done over and over again..like James Horner does. It is unfair to say they have lost their touch...if anything they have maintain their artistic integrity by not hacking up previous work in order to maintain the status quo.

Not so much Danny Elfman, but John Williams hasn't been in a position to make really iconic music as of late. Munich and The Terminal don't call for the same music Indiana Jones did.

"Still have it"? Is this a segway into a Cialis commericial?

No. I'm a musician and I have no nostalgiac connection to Batman'89/The Simspons theme OR Hulk/Spider-Man.
objectively/critically speaking I feel the former are genius and the latter are crapola.

Never really liked Elfman that much. His work is too similiar. Don't get me wrong; some of his stuff is good, he's just a tad overrated as far as film score composers go imo. His work doesn't add to the movies as well as people like John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Alan Silverstri, James Horner(even though he's the worst self-plagarist), James Newton Howard, Ennio Morricone, etc.

And there is no comparison between Williams and Elfman. Williams is a king, and Elfman is nowhere close to that.

As far as Williams "not having it anymore", that's COMPLETE RUBBISH. His work for the prequel trilogy is outstanding, and on the same level as the original trilogy mostly. He doesn't score huge themepark movies like he use to, but his "quieter" stuff is still top notch. Munich in particular is a haunting score.

Plus its pretty stupid to judge someone only on their recent works when their past stuff is the best of the type. Yes, Williams IS the greatest film score composer of ALL TIME.

I wouldn't say anything he's written is genius, but it does seem like those two in particular are phoned in. I don't think its so much that he can't write great music anymore so much as he doesn't bother.

You can't really judge his talent as he hasn't tried for a long time, he just churns out watered-down rehashes of stuff he did 20 years ago and no one calls him on it.

So the music on Spider-Man and the Hulk is just as good as Batman?
Balderdash.

Seriously, when did he ever loose it:confused: A lot of his recent work isn't AS great as much of his past masterpieces but they still are great nevertheless.

Spider-Man no, but the Hulk? That score was ****ing brilliant.
