does going to church make your life better?

Sparkly, you know I love ya, but I wish you'd stop calling him a sickening idiot 'cause some lightweight mod is gonna close this beautiful thread. :(

Have any of your ever learned from a tragedy in your life? You guys act like you've never gleaned any info from something "bad" happening to you.
So we'll stop learning when we get to Heaven ?!?

true.....true. my bad :(
I love the Mystery and respectfully disagree with his well thought out notions of justice and divinity.

I hate prefacing all my posts like this in this thread but, as a christian myself, some of the stuff ive read from fellow believers is just crazy.<<<Thou shall not judge.....

I had a pretty good relationship with Jesus Christ, but then he kept wanting me to do things in the bedroom. Things I really wasn't just comfortable with. He liked to, y'know, use his finger, and I just felt a little too sensitive there. And he liked to do this thing, with a... god I can't even say... like, a rodent. Well, needless to say, I just had to end it. I hope he finds someone that makes him happy, but I do worry that he's going to catch an STD. I miss you, Jesus.
...

O, wow. You are like my new favorite person, right now.

This thread reminds me of why I despise organized religion in many, many ways.

Y'know, could it be possible that God wasn't ready for the couple to have a kid yet? Damn, you guys are trying to apply logic to something that God says is illogical. It's not a matter of equals here. There are plenty of "good" people who have had bad things happen in there life, that doesn't make them bad people, it just means that the person is gonna have to go through some trials and tribulations. Going through a trial isn't necessarily a bad thing. In the bible it's said that, and I paraphrase, "God won't give you a greater burden than you can bear." Meaning, he won't let anything happen to you that you, with his help, wouldn't be able to handle. Stop trying to apply human logic to spiritual workings!!! That's why he says, an a paraphrase again, "Just trust and believe in me, I'll work it out." And if you do that, eventually, it will. It might not happen on your neat little schedule but it'll work itself out.

Amen! Thank you Jesus that a couple of people stand strong. I side with God too. Don't let those living in blindful sin get under your skin. That's just their nature, ya know? I know that it's really hard not to say stuff to them but they can't help it it's their nature...The nature to be distasteful, disrespectful, anti-Christian, and so much more. I'm glad that some people such as Christians like us will actually stand against the nature of sin.

It's gonna be a Stalemate till the end of time with these people. Just know that I agree with you and I'm proud that you and myself stand against sin. Against things such as gay marriage, abortion, pornography, sex before marriage, and so many other immoral things. It's great to be in the Will of God isn't it? LoL Life is soo much better when we have God on our side.

I'm gonna apologize to Scream and Mr. Sparkle. I've been going about this the wrong way. There is no way I'm gonna be able to convince you that God exists, because in your head, he doesn't exist. It would be just as foolish for you guys to try and convince me that he doesn't exist. So, I've got no problem with "agreeing to disagree" because we can argue in circles all day and won't get anywhere. I did enjoy the discussion, you guys put up a hell of a fight.

Sure you can.
It says so in the Bible.
Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is an unpardonable sin.
You can be an honest, Born Again Christian and then blaspheme the Holy Spirit after the fact.

Well, I don't "reject" what he "did". I don't believe he "did" anything. I don't believe Zeus really came down in the form of a bull and had sex with women. I wouldn't say that means I "reject" Zeus and what he did. I can't reject someone who doesn't exist.

See th^t is scary to me...that you can't even admit the possibility that maybe I was fooled by the falsehood of my Christian upbringing and finally broke free of it once I'd studied more about it and there were no more parents, teachers or pastors to hide all of it's numerous contradictions from me.

I know that the truth is, none of us CAN know with 100% surety until:
a) God reveals himself
b) We die.

I may be totally wrong. The Biblical God may be real. I can't know.
But the fact is, it can't be proven either way, and yet Christians pretend that they DO know for sure.
You simply can't, and no, th^t is N.O.T. "the only logic here" and it's offensive to suggest that it is.

Lol, This happens often, where Christians say "We need to respect eachother's beliefs." and then they disrespect someone else's belief. lol

I fully grasp the concepts. I just don't have faith in a myth.
Would you accept that assessment, if a Pagan were to say to you, "Well, the fact that you don't believe in and worship Gaea the Earth Mother tells me you don't seem to understand Faith or Grace."?

Whatever.
As was said before there is no debate to be had with someone whose mind is made up regardless of facts. *shrug*

To not believe in it, is to reject it, and that is what I was refering to.

I respectfully agree. We won't know 100%, but if I'm going to put faith in something during my life, this makes the most sense to me.

Who's to say some people aren't closer to God than others, based on how closely they pursue His will? It's a joke for you to act like you truely know if OTHER people know for sure! In the Old Testiment, God literally revieled himself to his people, but you weren't there so how can you say He didn't??

And finally, I could not have grown in my faith if I had not personally questioned it as well. Again, you don't know what I think about so how can you tell me I'm close-minded?? I wouldn't begin to talk about these matters if I weren't FIRST OF ALL interested in hearing and thinking about other people's perspectives... I am, have been, and find myself only more interested in hearing your opinions because they DO seem to at least be well thought out.

Yeah, because sex is so inherently bad and hurtful that we need punishment for it. Funny, there's no disease you get from murdering someone.

The brilliant thing is, you're so close to something true that you don't even know what it is you're talking about.

God gave us a great many things to enjoy, especially the intimacies found in life, but MAN has made them into something ugly. Mankind has the literal tendency to take something beautiful and destroy it; whether it be a rain forest, peace between nations, the ozone layer, or YES, even SEX.

It's meant to be something beautiful, sacred, and God-honoring but outside the law it has become something dark, dirty, and not without consequence.

As for your second statement, sin is sin. There is no caste system for which to base it, but if there was, it isn't our ultimate decision which of these is worse.

Why bother wondering if it's God's fault that babies die of AIDS when God said V.E.R.Y. clearly in the Bible that he killed millions of people, tons of the first born sons of the Egyptians (who were innocent) and that he commanded the Israelites to kill thousands of Men, Women, Children, Babies and animals?
 X 1,000,000,000

He actually brags about it.

Who says they were "innocent" because they in fact weren't. No one is. We're "born into sin". That means "guilty from birth". And while it may be argued that we don't know at what age we actually "become responsible" for our sin, the fact remains we are sinners.

It also says all children go to heaven. So its a contradictory statement.

Wilhelm-Scream said:
God has actually held children responsible for the sins of their parents, for GENERATIONS...which is another sign of how capricious, unjust, unfair and evil such a God would be, if he existed. :down

OR it should be a lesson learned as to the SEVERITY of our actions and choices in life.

No one wants responsibility for anything anymore.

"It?" (vague) Perhaps they (all children) do. That's another "we won't know till we're dead" scenario.

The Bible says so. So you're saying we can't believe everything the bible says now?

Children are NOT responsible if they're Father sins!!! But God punished them anyways.
I agree that people don't take responsibility enough, everyone thinks of themselves as a "victim" of society, etc. and that's gross, but I'm talking about punishing people who A.R.E.N.'T. responsible.

That's wrong no matter how you look at it.

It's like the people who want me to give them money because I'm White and some White guys I've never met and am not even related to had Black slaves hundreds of years before I was born. :down

God gives me great PRidE in being a Christian and a testimony to others. My Pride is a God-Honoring Pride. It's in the word of God. So if you disagree with that then I will have to end our dispute period
