The Dark Knight Rises does it seem like this film does not have the buzz TDK did?

I remember when TDK was so.. anticipated. On the superherohype homepage, there was a constant countdown, i.e. days, hrs, minutes. It seems as though this movie does not have nearly as much excitement attached to it.
I don't know if it's because there are so many youtube videos, or if it's because there isn't a whole new look to the costume, or what.. Everyone I've talked feels that way..kind of depressing

It's definitely not got the level of anticipation TDK had.

There's also been more complaints for this one like with Hathaway's casting, then her Catwoman costume, Hardy's size, Hardy's Bane voice in the prologue etc.

Well, TDK had one of the most iconic pop-culture characters.

That's because TDKR isn't being talked about in every news and entertainment outlets by association of one of its star's death.

I definitely think it's more anticipated than TDK was.

It's still early to have any real fanfare or advertising for it.

As Excelsior said, the reason why TDK was getting talked about right now, was because Ledger died in January of '08.

I actually think I've been hearing about it more than I usually did for TDK at this stage, but I credit that to how the internet and social networking fad has grown since then. In a promotional sense it's very quiet, and whilst people anticipate it that feels like it's more to do with it's predecessors and Nolan's track record than it having an honest, innate impression on people like say TDK did with it's trailers/Heath's Joker.

I dunno, I think if anything at the moment, this film feels like Inception before it came out.

I honestly think it's better that it doesn't have the anticipation; I, as well as others, enjoyed TDK however felt it didn't live up to the hype/expectations that it got.

Also, with TDK we had fun viral games to keep us entertained during droughts. That definitely helped around here with hype.

It won the most anticipated film at the Scream Awards. It's the follow up to TDK, and Nolan's last. The anticipation is there. It's just a quiet, huddled mass at the moment. Nitpicks cannot bring the film down as a whole, cohesive unit.

Yep. Keep in mind, Heath Ledger's death and the virals kept everyone busy back in 2008.

People tend to forget that December and January were TDKR-crazed. What's transpiring now was predictable. No News = Subtle Hype.

It's all quiet on the western front ...until the the marketing campaign kicks up again. It's gonna sneak up on people again.

Yeah it's Joker's absence. Most people don't even know what a Bane is.

The Joker wasn't going to headline this film.

Bane is unknown, but Catwoman isn't -- come May that won't matter anyways.

Who is this Bane you speak of? :o

Yeah it's Joker's absence. Most people don't even know what a Bane is.

Exactly. Joker's one of the very few Batman villains who's as iconic as Batman himself.

People are placing way too much credit on The Joker's Icon status.

The character itself did not make WB a billion dollars.

Agreed, a lot of factors did that, but I won't take away Joker's credit of finally being redone live-action.

Should have gone with Johnny Depp as The Penguin. :o

Definitely. I believe there were a few other factors that led TDK to pop-culture status.

Me neither. It was a brilliant preformance and the character was written to near-perfection.

It doesn't have the Joker. Way more iconic and popular than Bane or Catwoman.

I'd say Joker and Catwoman are on the same field in terms of popularity. Or at least they would have been if not for Halle Berry.

The two movies that have had Catwoman in them didn't make near as much as the two movies that have had the Joker in them.

Your logic is flawed.

Did Magneto or Wolverine make X-Men a billion dollars?

I hope most people after this movie think Bane is a badass.
