Wow Cheadle? Seriously? I guess things Change
Oh, God. Why? I really like Howard in the role. Now just doing this will look awkward. I don't know a RDJ and this will work. I can see it, and it looks stiff.
If true, that's a bull**** reason for getting rid of Howard. After the success of the first movie, I wouldn't think an expensive paycheck would make them want to recast so quickly.
So much for "We are pretty intent on (making Avengers) with the actors we've established for the roles..." if someone overprices himself... they'll recast... don't think for one second Marvel will have all the actors locked down for the Avenger film right off the bat... not trying to be negative here but Marvel has clearly set a precedent.
Honestly, I have to inquire...Marvel knows how popular War Machine is in the IM mythos, what exactly makes them think it wouldn't warrant the extra cash with fans?
Marvel doesn't want to send a message that they are willing to pay to keep someone around or overpaying to sign actors to a project...it sends a message to Hollywood that Marvel Studios will not be slave to the whims and greed of actors....and anyone who thinks otherwise can hit the bricks....
Dude, Cheadle is a ****ing phenomenal actor, but he is no Rhodey.
That picture is laughable. He looks entirely out of place.
Seriously guys, we don't know all the details.
It's not for certain that Terence Howard pulled an Entourage/A2.
I also hate switching actors. Howard and Cheadle are both good actors. The bottom line is either would of been fine but Howard got the role first.... and now they're switching. I HATE SWITCHING ACTORS IN A FRANCHISE!!!! the audience relates the character with the actor playing the role, if you keep switching the actor it's like the audience loses touch with the character...
First Dark Knight, now Iron Man. tisk tisk.
Even if Batman 3 blows everyone away and Nolan goes down in history as making the best superhero franchise ever, I'll still be slightly annoyed that they switched actresses playing Rachel midstream... ugh....
I'm not a fan of replacing actors in a series of films, feels strange to watch someone else play a role another actor played a couple years earlier. I actually enjoyed Terrence as Jim Rhodes and am saddened that he and Marvel couldn't come to terms.
If its a matter of Marvel not willing to pay more for a role that will be expanded in the second film, than that's troubling, but it's also possible Terrence was asking way to much, hard to say at this point, however, if this was Terrence's fault, he only has himself to blame, as he would most likely have gotten a spin-off movie of his own, now he's on the outside looking in.
wth, Howard is out. i still hope this is just a rumor and that negotiation is still on with Howard. It just wouldn't look the same without him.
but I'll give a cheadle a chance.
Not the best photo to compare with.
It'd look a bit better if he had a 'stache or a goatee and didn't look like he was watching Schindler's List..
This is kind of like Marc Bulger refusing to play for the Rams anymore and they go and replace him with Peyton Manning. In my books it is called an upgrade.
Downey is the only member of the cast that they absolutely need to keep.
If it's true that Howard wanted more money and Marvel wouldn't agree I would have to say I do agree with what I put in bold from BlackLantern.
I think Cheadle is a good actor and all but I was really liking Howard as Rhodes. This is very disappointing news.
This news is gayer than Clay Aiken in Spamalot.
Cheadle is a good actor, but he is not right for Rhodes.
ok its pretty much confirmed Cheatle is going to do Iron Man 2. Howard is going to do the spin-off.. its ok everybody...
haha that'll be the day.
Yeah, I literally spent 60 seconds on it. I was at work, I'm still at work. Working my 10th days straight
If my bosses see me working on manips they'd whip me.
Thanks, it was a super lazy quick manip.
The IronMan manips I've seen around here have been great so there'll be some really nice fan ones popping up.
too much good news was going around about the iron man trilogy, the avengers, cap. a, thor, etc, and of course, something had to ruin it.(Cheatle is a good actor, but like several of you have said, he's not Rhodes.)
Terrence was perfect. Ugh.
Actually, I'd be really bothered if Paltrow was replaced. Much more than Howard. She was really great imo.
So Rhodes' armor is gonna be called TK421 now..?
My issue with this recasting is with the fact that Marvel Studios seems to be getting a big head now that Iron Man is a viable franchise. Sure, people will enjoy a second film if it's good enough, but part of what made Iron Man successful was that all the talents they hired were committed to making the movie great. Howard, both in interviews and behind the scenes, gave a lot of effort into his role. It's not a good sign that a paycheck determines continuity, and if Hulk's fate in Avengers is any clue then it could also be argued that they view the dollar over the characters in the long run.
I don't know...this comes across as greed. If I were Feige, I'd be drafting up an official statement on the matter. It's bad enough that this is a recasting, but it's a recasting of a character which will get further development in the movies to come. We deserve an explanation.
Well I just watched IM 1 and I must say that Terrence is the only person I can see in this role I mean Cheadle is nice and all but he just seems so left field, he doesnt even look like Howard. AT all.
^^I don't agree.....it's a business decision and most here are looking at it from a fans standpoint....maybe this means the development of a Rhodes spin off film is being shelved...wouldn't bother me either way
