Donald DeLine on the GREEN LANTERN Movie

Here's the Q&A with De Line that Collider has up:

Question: Is Green Lantern going to be a straight up conventional action comic book movie or is it more of a comedy?

Donald De Line: It is absolutely a big action/adventure piece and fantasy obviously as we go out into space with the Green Lantern. And it’s Hal Jordan. It will absolutely have a sense of humor as well, character based humor. So it’s not dark it that regard.

Question: Is it more like an Iron Man?

Donald De Line: I would say the tone absolutely wants to live in that kind of a world.

Question: A lot of fandom seems to be excited by comic book movies and they seem to be a huge part of the box office. Is this project definitely green lit and going?

Donald De Line: It is definitely going as much as anything is in the movie business right now. We’re in pre-production. We have Martin Campbell directing it. We have our production designer and costume designer. We’re heading off to Australia to scout next week. It’s on the release calendar. I feel like we’d have to do something really wrong to stop it from happening. But I think we’re absolutely going to keep it on the track.

Question: Well it seems to me that the Marvel movies have done such a good job at introducing other characters into their movies like they did in Iron Man with Nick Fury. Are you guys already thinking about say introducing another DC character in Green Lantern?

Donald De Line: I haven’t gone there because I’m just doing Green Lantern, but DC Comic is a part of Warner Bros. and they both have a very large agenda with that. So I think they’ve got all kinds of things in the works. Yeah, definitely.

Yes!

read the deline articles on shh/moviehole/etc... links pretty nice interview, and we have known for months now they are planning for mid 20s-early 30s actor for hal due to the age in the script. I seriously cant wait to hear who is picked as hal and i hope he is the right suited actor for the job and does well.

He says absolutely a lot

A lot of time will be used to establish the character of Hal Jordan, so that audiences can connect with him prior to acquiring the ring that gives him his superpowers.

Oh god, I hope there's no six hour wait like Spider-Man, Hulk, etc. Iron Man had perfect timing and because of it, there's no excuse to waste so much time anymore.

I disagree, Iron Man did nothing but build his suit in that movie. It was almost like a running gag. And Batman Begins wasted far more time.

^Nah, I'm just one of the rare people who don't look at the latest comicbook movies with rose colored glasses. Don't get me wrong I dug the hell out of Iron Man (8.5/10) but it didn't rock me like it did other people despite RDJ's great performance.

But he started blowing ****e up in an armoured suit like, 20 minutes into the movie?

Yes Batman Begins also wasted time, I usually skip that kind of stuff these days, it always dilutes the heros first appearance. For me Batman '89 had the best hero first appearance, wham, bam no time wasted.

It doesn't bother me at all. To each his/her own I guess.

Alright, early 30's. Sam Worthington please.

Terminator Salvation is just like Hal and Bruce running around.

Late 20's/early 30's is great news. Though all my choices from the other thread stand, so I don't really see a difference.

This is very exciting news...I've been longing for the live action 'Green Lantern' film to arrive for so long it seems...longer even then 'Flash.'

It's about time SOMEONE at Warners realize there's more to the DCU then Batman and Superman.

I'm glad they didn't do it in the 80s like they were going too. I just have a hard time picturing Eddie Murphy as John Stewart.

Eddie Murphy needs to stick to playing talking donkeys these days because most of his other stuff sucks.

:up: DeLine knows what's up! We just need Hal cast, any day now, and this should be awesome.

So basically it's going to be an action comedy.

Would you consider Iron Man an action comedy? It will be similar to that.

At least they're thinking about making the movie and putting some serious thought into it now.
