Hey everyone. BS based his films's "vague history" on STM and SM2. However, with Donner's Cut of the film out soon, and it being reveled that the Donner cut is pretty different from the theatrical version, doesn't this put SR out of loop?

I don't think that the Donner cut will put SR out of the loop. Singer took care of that on his own.

However, the FOS being destroyed, no amnesia kiss, yeah, he might be irked. But look on the bright side, we will actually get a good Superman movie in 2006.

That would be an awesome t-shirt.

Vague history means that it's not directly a sequel to donner's cut or anybody's cut. It's just some parallel universe like in Sliders where some of what occurred in the original films' universe did happen and others didn't I guess. it's confusing to try to figure out a way these films are connected in continuity so I won't try. ...

I don't think they need to be connected, they are all elseworld tales in my book anyway.

That confuses me. that mean Sr's an elseworld of stm or an elseworld of itself? I know the comics have their elseworld stories, but never the movies.

SR is out the loop no matter what...no one cares for this new/old take of Superman. we wanted FRESH ideas not rehash. Even Nolan broke that with a character that has gone through rehash after rehash after rehash. Batman Begins now stands alone in it's own right. Borrowed NOTHING but that the idea that the suit is rubber or whatever and that it's fully black. Everything else is fresh. that's how you revive and idea. You do things nobody has ever seen or even expected.

yeah they're elseworld stories for sure.

Donner's cut has the time reversal not happening in Superman I but at the end of Superman II.

Lex's nuke in Superman I releases Zod. Zod arrives and in Donner's original version, does a lot of damage and brutal killing like a real Superpowered villain would. Superman reverses time at the end of SII as the only way to restore the damaged cities, bring Zod's victims back to life, and to yes, erase Lois' memory.

Of course Singer would just say "I ignored that part"

vague history means his story had very little to do with Superman, other than the fact that the title character wore blue tights, could fly and had an argument with Lex Luthor.

Aside from that, SR provided little or nothing to the Superman mythos. If you want to include the kid, that's fine. But I doubt we will be seeing Jason in any DC comics anytime soon.

To put it bluntly, Superman Returns is a vague part of the Superman history.

and if singer stays on, we will be getting.....
superman 2 returns- the wrath of zod.

oh god no!!

You really shouldn't speak for everybody......that maybe how you feel but not everyone feels the way you do.

Does anyone think that if not for the timing of SR that they may have considered releasing this in limited theaters. Would there have been an audience for Donner's version of Supes II. And if so, how would it have done at the box office?

It would have been in a very limited cinema's and as far as box office it would not even register

I took the whole vague history thing kinda like BATMAN FOREVER did. I mean, **** happened before...they hint at that ****, and we move on. That was it.

And, most people won't watch this cut.....so I don't think it will do anything to SR.

Yeah I guess your right, I was thinking that since it seems that most people look back fondly on the Donner vision, that they would show mass support as in theater dollars. Yet now I guess that, that is pretty much the point that was in the past and it added to the Supes mythos, and it's time to start a new chapter, which BS didn't seem to do. Good for 1978 not 2006.

Yeah, I think it probably would have been attacked horribly. I mean, probably even accused of taking advantage of Chris Reeve's name to make a buck is something I think people would have clung to.

It's best that it doesn't get released in theaters. DVD is the only route, I think. They'll apease the small audience that wants it, and won't offend the larger audience that don't care.

Well, he can speak for me. I feel the same way he does.

This film was a rehash of the original, and anyone who feels otherwise, is deluding themselves into believing that it isn't.

Sliders was pretty damn sweet.

wait.....so....umm........if Supes turns back time in S2......then how does he save Lois at the end of S1?

also......if Supes turns back time in S2.....does that mean he completely erases all events that happened in S2? Meaning......Lois finding out his secret.......he and Lois sleeping together in FOS?? etc.

Apparently vague history is sinonimous with make it up as you go along...so whether or not SR is is connected to the first 2 Reeve movies is up to individual interpretation.

Donner's Cut Might Not Make Singer Happy

Singer can go to hell for all I care.
