Dorkyfresh Sketches and Drawings

i don't see anything really wrong with the anatomy...where'd you get that from besides the foot being a little awkward? Its far from "weak".
thats because you havent stuided anatomy, im just being honest.

Well, excuse me Da Vinci. I didn't know you had my college transcripts. Criticism without being constructive is what I call trolling.

you're not being honest....you're just being rude. both of those posts read as if they're disrespectful. you don't come to someone's thread, call their art "weak", tell them to practice, then say they haven't grown as an artist in the last 2 years. you even had the nerve to tell someone that you barely even know that they haven't studied anatomy. you have no right to tell him he's never studied anatomy just because you THINK my anatomy is "weak". i'm all up for constructive criticism, but those last 2 posts were pretty much trashing my work without giving me any advice or pointers other than "you should practice."

anyway, being that you're supposedly an expert in anatomy...i have a challenge for you. take my phoenix piece and sketch your corrections to her anatomy over my piece. that shouldn't be so hard should it? i can guarantee that you won't find many...other than her foot, which i've already admitted i had problems with.

Ignore DJ Blaster he's obviously being a prick.

In all honesty DJ Blaster, your work is no where near as good as dorkyfresh's. I looked at your deviantart page and the pencils that were actually yours had a slew of anatomy problems. Better hit those anatomy books.

And Dorky... I think that phoenix pic is pretty good but as other people have stated that foot looks awkward and youve already admitted to having troubles with drawing the face at that angle. It's ok.. i have trouble with that angle as well. From what i see though, the only things that bother me are her butt and hand. Her butt seems a bit TOO round..it's almost crescent shaped and looks artificial. Flatten the curve at the top of her butt just a little to give it a more natural shape. Her hand also looks a bit weird.. maybe a bit too much detail and the proportions seems just a little off at that angle... like it seems more claw like than hand like.

As for the foot.. yeah the angle is all wrong. Try drawing the foot in more of a profile view while showing just a sliver of the sole of her boot. This would give a much more natural looking foot with the proper angle at least that's how i see it.

i did a quick little thing in paint.. sorry i only hae paint right now and a mouse so it's difficult but i hope you can see what i did. but ill be getting a new computer and wacom soon woohoo.

phoenix.jpg

oh yeah.. and generally the problem i have with drawing the face at that angle is making the mouth too big. I find if i make it just a little smaller despite what your brain tells you that it will look a little more natural. give it a try.

hey dude, i haven't seen you in a while...hehe. thanks for the advice and pointers...i agree with everything you said and i see how i could've made the foot and her ass better. i'll take note of that for next time...

...when are you gonna get some of your stuff up, dude? i haven't seen anything from you in a while...

np dude... just trying to make everyone a better artist. Seriously, I havent been drawing much lately.. but a coworker of mine has inspired me to get my butt in gear so im getting and building a new computer today just for photoshop work and i'll be getting a new wacom tablet soon so i can dive into learning photoshop. If all goes well I'll be able to put up some of my newest artwork this weekend. Nothing fancy or colored like yours tho. Probably just pencil sketches for now. But we'll see.

Good luck with the art dorkyfresh!

Dude, youre criticism is a bit pretentious when your stuff isn't any better at all. I've taken loads of life drawing and studied anatomy and unless your just nitpicking for the sake of it, the foot is really the only REAL problem area.

thanks for backin' me up guys...i'm not sure why DJ Blaster felt the need to post those things but thanks for speakin' up.

anyway, i felt like doing a quick sketch of what i would do if i could change Supes' suit.

newsupes.jpg

i'm all about the classics but i really like that design.....maybe the original "S" though ;)

not really feeling this design dorky, especially the cape attachments. Reminds me of kirk alyn's or dean cain's pad like attachement. In all honesty i dont think anyone could successfully redesign superman's costume and make it work but people still continue trying. Superman without the red underwear just doesnt look like superman anymore. He just needs that red in that area.

i disagree i hate the underwear adn think it's a bad idea that needs to be changed but i'm in the minority:D

I like that supes design but i think zolland is right needs a diff. 's' not the standard but not kingdom come either.

Question is the top blue a different shade lighter blue? if so i like it.

The yellow piping is an interesting idea that i didn't like at first but the more i look the more i like.

The cape attach just seem to wide somehow maybe if it were just a little slimmer mabe with something to attach it to?

You should post this in the Dc redesign thread really good!

before i start...just letting ya'll know, i know how to take constructive criticism and i took notice of what you guys typed and i'm not saying i'm right or you guys are wrong, i'm just giving my reasons why i made the design the way i did. :)

about the cape attachment...i didn't want something that looks like he just tucked it in. i love the way Donner's Superman has his cape attached, but i wanted something different...something that would convey Superman's SUPERness and that's when i remembered sketch of Kirk Alyn's Superman (you're exactly right, Wushuboy). the artist drew the cape attachment in such a way that it looked almost like a uniform and that's what i wanted Supes' costume to look like....a Kryptonian/alien uniform. i'll make another drawing, later, to show you what i mean.

i have to disagree about Superman without red underwear....there have been redesigns out there that get rid of the undies while still keeping the Superman LOOK. i don't think any design will ever replace the underwear, but i think Superman is still Superman if he forgets his undies.

well...i'd thougth about doing a cross between a Kingdom Come \s/ and the original, but when i look at the original (even the hybrid Kingdom Come/original shield) it still looks TOO much like an "s" to me. i know it's a far stretch to think an alien could look and act exactly like us, but it's even further of a fetch that they have a character in their language that happens to look like an "s" as much as the current \S/ does. my brother was looking at one day and said something that stuck in my mind. the diamond shape with one diagonal line running through it looks much more like an alien character than the original shield does...and that's why i love the idea so much, because it still looks like an "S" while making it look more alien. i know a lot of people aren't gonna like it but i'm just giving you the reason why i made the "S" look like that.

thanks and yes, i did that on purpose. i tried making the colors more dramatic but in the end....the subtlety made it look better i think.

The yellow piping is an interesting idea that i didn't like at first but the more i look the more i like.

the yellow piping was something that i had to struggle with. at first, i wasn't going to add it....but then i got to thinking about Supes' colors. i wanted Superman to look almost....royal. and red and blue alone didn't make him look much like royalty, plus...adding yellow makes him look that much more like Supes....so i added piping. admittedly it still didn't turn out as good as i'd hoped, but i think that's just because i didn't draw it right. i'll probably do another sketch. as for the cape attachment...see my reply to Wushuboy, hehe.

and i WILL post this is in the DC thread. thanks again, guys, for checkin' out my stuff (that didn't sound right, haha!)

Translation: "I'M BEING A DICK FOR NO REASON!"

no really i dont like the art, and i dont have to pretend to be nice.
you should be able to take such crits without attacking the person.
actually, i have a phd in anatomy

but really i dont think that your art has improved since i saw it two years ago, that is an opinion. maybe you havent practiced a lot or something, but i think the reason is that anytime somebody gives crits on these boards twenty people make posts sucking up to the artist. if you suck, you suck. just take the crit and figure out whats wrong with your drawing.

and btw college degrees and transcripts dont mean a thing if you dont have any art to show besides this:

DJ, not taking sides or anything, but what you posted before wasn't really a critique. You said the anatomy was off, but gave no reason or any insightful details on how to fix it.

And yes, you don't have to pretend to be nice, but then why do you have to be so blunt and rude? I'm sure you wouldn't want other artists treating you that way. :)

Bull**** You Have A Phd In Anatomy!!

You Have A Phd In Being A Royal Ass!

*slams on cymbal*

Ill be here all week folks. ;)

Your profile says you're from Rhode Island and only 17 years old.

I highly HIGHLY doubt you've been going through college courses long enough to earn a PhD. That'd be four years of Bachelor studies, two years of masters studies, and however many years worth of classes for your Doctorate.

Not to mention the work on your site is 90% penciled by other people and colored by you. I can't find a single pencil work by you on your site.

P.S. If the PhD in Anatomy was sarcasm, you kids need new ways of implying sarcasm. When the intelligence of the poster is questioned its hard to know whether or not theyre being sarcastic or are just that ridiculously outrageous.

You may or may not have a PhD in anatomy. I don;t really care at all because it doesnt mean a thing since it doesnt seem to have helped your drawing skills. I'd really like to see what kind of skills you've gained since 2004 because judging by your figure art on your deviantart site your grasp of drawing human anatomy isnt very good. Seems that PhD hasnt done much for you. Having a degree in anatomy means nothing if you can reproduce what you learned. Perhaps you should look up the definition of constructive criticism. If all artists could just figure out what was wrong with their drawings they wouldnt be asking for constructive criticism. Sometimes artists are blinded by their own stylistic mistakes.

So put up or shut up and lets see you post some of your OWN artwork and not just your colors over some othre artist's work.

no...you don't have to...if you don't like my art, that's totally your opinion. as long as you're not flaming or being overly rude, that's fine...

you should be able to take such crits
crits? i'm sorry? did you mean critiques? you gave me....critiques?

WHEN DID YOU GIVE ME CRITIQUES? in case you forgot....here are your last 2 posts on this thread...

yeah anatomy is still pretty weak, maybe you should practice...then again your art hasnt really improved in the last two years you have been posting here.
thats because you havent stuided anatomy, im just being honest.

now let's look up the definition of "criticize". it's says (marriam-wester online) "to consider the merits and demerits of and judge accordingly." okay...so.....where in your last two posts did you mention the GOOD things or give me any real advice? you know what???? I DON'T THINK YOU DID!

so...we've established that you didn't give me a fair critique and you gave me next to no advice.

actually, i have a phd in anatomy
lemme get this straight....

...you're 17 and you have a deviantart gallery made of up of mediocre colors with drawings of characters with exaggerated proportions..and you have a doctorate in anatomy???

that's VERY hard to believe! tell you what...if you can prove that you do, i will put my foot in my mouth and apologize for doubting you...but that doesn't change you saying you did something you actually didn't.

if you suck, you suck. just take the crit and figure out whats wrong with your drawing.
i totally agree...

...the problem is...you didn't give me a critique...

and btw college degrees and transcripts dont mean a thing if you dont have any art to show besides this:
if you're going to be dirty, expect to be treated dirty...

...phd's don't mean anything if your art looks like this...
Female_THOR.jpg

think about that next time you decide to be unfairly rude to a fellow artist.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the idea of a Phd in anatomy makes no sense. It was sarcasm.

Crappy sarcasm.

But, posting his art as an attack like that is just as dick-ish as anything he said. Way to be immature Dorky.
