Horror Dr. Lecter Invites you to Dinner. The ''Hannibal'' Thread - Part 5

I miss this show, I really wish Amazon or Netflix would bring it back, I feel like this show could've been big if it had been given the right marketing and put on the right platform, we were lucky that it lasted as long as it did on NBC. Mads was just too good to not have him play the role again.

Fuller stated his adaption of Lambs was for s5, and he had other plans for s4...

Just showed my girlfriend all 3 seasons... she was so mad there wasn’t more. I told her, she couldn’t believe how we felt 5 years ago.

I'll be honest. As much as I'm curious about a SOTL adaptation, that might create a hindrance to Clarice's story. This show is about Will and Hannibal. I think you could do something of a "love triangle" between the three if you were to bring Clarice in, but SOTL is so much Clarice's story it wouldn't be SOTL anymore. I wouldn't want Will to overshadow her.

Unless Clarice just totally takes over the show in Will's place and Will is in the background now, mentoring Clarice or something and still plays a pivotal role. There can be something said about Fuller remixing these stories, but those were okay since those were about Hannibal and Will and the show was about Hannibal and Will.

Man, I really want to rewatch S1-S3 again! The performances, writing the cinematography, direction, nods, score, and gore were all wonderful!

Also, I may be biased as the series was my introduction to Hannibal Lecter, but Mads is my favourite Hannibal, even though I also love Hopkins’ and Brian Cox’s takes!

Well for the record, Fuller said he had different plans for S4, that wouldn't be Silence of the Lambs (SotL would be S5 if he got the rights).

I loved the show, but I think S3 was probably my least favorite and that’s when the show was overtly adapting both Hannibal and Red Dragon. So if we were to get a comeback, which I would love, I’d prefer the show to sort of trail off into that S1-2 space where they were touching on material in the books without necessarily adapting a full story rather than going straight into Silence of the Lambs.

Against my better judgment, I am actually rather intrigued by the Clarice series, so if I could get Hannibal and Will here and Clarice there, I’m good.

Man I loved S3. Not as much as S2, but still very much loved it. That said, I'm totally cool with this show not doing adaptations of the books going forward and telling its own story while pulling elements from them.

I’ve been meaning to read the books. Being self-isolated has given me a lot of free time, other than watching TV all the time.

Okay, good. I actually think not doing SOTL will benefit them. It will force them to come up with new stories and take that relationship in other directions Fuller likes. This was part of the show's strength anyway. The material inspired them to just go off in their own direction while occasionally going back to the material when needed. Not in the direct adaptations like in S3. Now they can go hog wild.

If they bring Clarice in, just make her a supporting character and not do SOTL. She can have her own journey under Fuller's vision and in the context of what they've been doing. I just feel like SOTL at this point seems obligatory and off the beaten path of the off beaten path that Fuller charted.

Idk, I'd like to see Mads work with that SOTL material and he more than deserves it, but having Will involved does make things tricky . I don't buy the mentoring idea either cause there's no ****ing way he's allowed in the FBI after season 3. Then again, realistically speaking, he and Jack shouldn't have been allowed after season 2, but alas.

Yeah all 3 seasons were just great. Hoping It gets revived. We can dream.

...well if we don't get our Murder Husbands season, then Will can die after the cliff fall. And, their SOTL can be taken place so many years later (the amount that we've waited since the finale) will Hannibal re-locked up. And, the whole Clarice aspect will even have more hesitation by the FBI considering what happened with Jack and Miriam/Will previously.

It'll make Clarice even more important, larger than life after all we've been through during the 3 seasons.

Idk, Wentworth ;

pulled off killing their main protagonist, but idk if that automatically means Hannibal can, too

Is Will even the protagonist anymore after what he did at the end of the last season? If the show does continue I do feel like there aren't too many ways for them to go with Will, he's kind of run his course imo, it'd seem like a huge stretch to me to try and get more than one more season out of him.

"Protagonist" does not always mean "good guy". The show is still more or less centered on/following him, even with the name being Hannibal lol

Decided to start watching this today. Like the Thomas Harris books and The Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite films. But I missed this show when it was on. But happy I can now watch this on Netflix! 3 episodes in, and I like it so far. I think Mads is great, though it will be hard for anyone to top Hopkins in SoTL specifically. Yeah, he kind of becomes a cartoon after that film though. Still, I am always open to other takes!

I had previously heard that the main thing blocking a S4 from happening was Amazon Prime having the streaming rights instead of Netflix, so now that that's no longer a hindrance...I have actual hope.
How dare you get me hyped!!!? :argh:
