Have you ever been to the drive-in?

As much as I love to see advances in technology, and as much as I normally despise useless sentimentalism, I can't help but love to go to the drive-in movie theater.
I have one about 15 miles from me, that I try to go to once a year atleast. This weekend I will be going and watching Superman Returns ( :( ), and POTC 2, and I'm excited.

Anyway, talk about your drive-in movie expeirences here. There are currently 420 drive-ins in the U.S. 30 were built new last year.

Anyway...

Yeah there was one supposed to be built in an open field I would of loved to go to one. They just seem more fun.

They closed down all the ones where I live cuz they were all right next to neighborhoods and hundreds of people would sit on their roofs and watch it from far away. Some people even jacked into the speakers of the drive-in and got free sound. So they all went out of business eventually.

There's 2 in Memphis.

One is on South Third. South Third in Memphis isn't a safe place, especially at night.

The other is on Summer Avenue in the eastern part of Memphis, near Bartlett.

The other Drive-Ins have long since closed.

Last time I went to a drive in was to see Superman 3.

yeah a long time ago.

i think i saw batman foever at one. it was a double show, i forget the other movie.

I went to see xmen TLS at a drive in a couple months ago, it was alright, definately better in a regular theatre tho

I just think relaxing in a car would be better than a theatre in those terrible seats, I was trying to sit with my girlfriend and you can't even cuddle. Those damn cup holders.

I think w do it better over here, they run film days over the summer in the parks showing classics, its awesome. Specialy in London, best city in the world. More history in it than all the US put together.

I've never been.
I didn't know there were that many in the U.S.

Maybe I'll check one out, but Man-Thing, is the drive-in experience better than the theater experience (without obnoxious people/babies/phones)?

Man I haven't been to one in years. There is one about 45 minutes away, maybe I'll check it out.

I like going to them where ever I am visting the In-Laws me and my wife just pack a blanket and go get a pizza from Pizza Hut and just sit back in the car and watch the movie (sometimes)

There is a drive-in about 10 minutes from me, but without the ability to drive yet, I don't get to go very much. I think the last movie I saw was Daddy Day Care. My favorite drive-in experience was probably going to see Spider-Man, though. When I do start driving on my own next summer, going to the drive-in will be at the top of my list of things to do.

Drive-ins are great. I saw Revenge of the Sith at one last yer. These kinds of places are great for visually intense movies like in the super hero genre.

We used to go all the time when I was in college, before they closed it and ripped it up to put in a subdivision. I had many a very memorable date at that drive-in :D . And we also used to go in big groups. When we were poor, we would put 10 people in the trunk of our friends '74 Caddy since they charged by the car, and then everyone would pile out once we were inside the gates. It looked like a circus clown car since people just kept coming out of the trunk. We'd actually get applause for that one. The manager even caught us doing it one time and when he saw how many people we fit in that damn trunk, he said that had to be a new record and that he wasn't going to throw us out. Hehe! The best way to go to the drive-in, though, is to get an old mattress and put it in the back of a pick-up truck with a sh1tload of blankets and pillows, get some nice food and drinks, and then just chill. It's like laying on your bed, outdoors, and watching a big-ass TV. I wish they'd build another drive-in around here. I miss it.
