With James Bond celebrating 50 years on the big screen and gearing up for a third Daniel Craig led outing, Skyfall, on November 9th, K5 Films, PalmStar Media Capital and Liberty Films are planning a biopic of his creator, Ian Fleming, to which Variety reports that Duncan Jones is now attached to direct.

Planned in conjunction with the Fleming estate, the film (currently operating under the working title of Fleming) will be based on the 1996 biography "Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond," officially described as follows:

Sportsman, womanizer, naval commander, world-traveler, and spy, the creator of the Cold War's archetypal secret agent was infinitely more complex and interesting than his iconic fictional character, Agent 007. Fleming's wide-ranging and exciting life inevitably provided the plausible backdrop for his Bond novels. Highly regarded in British naval intelligence for his international contacts, he master-minded numerous top secret operations, including "Golden Eye", which is uncovered here for the first time. He was also fundamental in shaping the prototype CIA. Two months before his wedding to Ann O'Neill, the widow of a friend with whom he'd carried on a passionate affair for fifteen years, Fleming sat down to write his first book, "Casino Royale", in order to soothe his nerves. Thus began the long line of Bond novels for which he would earn lasting fame.

Jones, who previously directed Moon and Source Code, will begin production on the film later this year.

Oh my god. This is going to be SO COOL!

....Micheal Fassbender. :o Just saying.

Sounds cool but every time Duncan Jones announces a new project that's not Mute, I can't hep but feel a little bit disappointed.

It would be a very interesting movie if done correctly.

That'd be a pretty stellar choice as well.

I think that's cool that he is doing something that isn't sci fi.

It's movies like this and Source Code that can probably secure some backing for Mute. It'll happen eventually. I hope.

pretty sure he said he was gonna have mute be a graphic novel and not a movie

I don't see this as being a typical 'jumping out of a helicopter shooting' type action movies. Fassbenders cool but I could see this as more of a talkie. Colin Firth would have been cool especially when he was younger.

Duncan is still hoping to make it a movie down the line, when the issue of finding a studio willing to finance the project is no more a movie will definitely happen but it could take awhile so it's good to see him getting busy with a new project anyhow.

Watch this be about his Chitty Chitty Bang Bang years.

Even though I have a giant soft spot for this man because of James Bond, you can't deny this man had a rather incredible life. I'd love to watch this.

Duncan Jones Departs Fleming Biopic to Make Warcraft

Before Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones signed on to direct Legendary Pictures' Warcraft, which will be released by Universal Pictures on December 18, 2015, he had been attached to a number of projects including Fleming, a biopic about James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

According to The Wrap, Jones has had to put that project behind him to start production on Warcraft in January with the amount of post-producton likely to keep him busy for most of the year. The producers of Fleming weren't willing to wait that long to start the movie and are currently looking for a new director who can come on board and start casting next year.

Based on Andrew Lycetts biography of Fleming with a screenplay by John Orloff (Anonymous), the film will explore his life as an international spy which influenced the James Bond books.

The film is being produced by K5 Internationals Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur with PalmStar Media Capitals Kevin Frakes and Liberty Films Stuart Fenegan, as well as the Ian Fleming estate, represented by Jim Young and Robert Laycock.

That's a shame. Maybe the guy who directed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy? His name escapes me.

Well if the big screen movie is on hold then the next best thing is the small screen

Staring Dominic Cooper AKA Howard Stark in "Captain America"

Alfredson is currently making The Brothers Lionheart – the most expensive scandinavian film project ever. So I doubt he is available anytime soon.

Anyone else been watching the BBC mini series starring Cooper as Fleming..?
